The USDA has a program that allows anyone 18 or younger that shows up to a school and receive free meals through the summer. This should stop immediately as a redundant give away program. Communism.

I am sure tap water is used in some of the preparation, but for drinks it’s either milk or juice. I don’t know what’s in the lunches they pass out during summer break but the food served during the school year is better than the district had when I was a kid.

The food is given to the parent through the welfare program. If the parent isn't feeding their kids, they should be removed from that home and put into the foster system. Yeah, I agree the abuse of the programs needs to stop.

Not only is the school food free, but the local schools also provide food to some student to take home with them. The counseling staff identifies student with food insecurity and gives them bags of packaged, shelf stable food to take home (like ramen cups). I don’t know how often they distribute those bags of food. It’s not everyday, not sure if it’s even a weekly thing.

I would much rather see food given directly to children, than debit cards automatically loaded up with funds for adults to misuse.

Why are able-bodied people without dependents on subsidies? I’m not even sure why having dependents is an issue. Most people with kids work everyday. Yet it’s a big “mystery” why there are different outcomes for some people in this country.

In the ultra-lib county where my parents used to live, the School Board decided it was bad for a child’s esteem to be known to qualify for food stamps due to low family income, so they extended the free lunches to ALL students.
