Republican senators block extension to ACA subsidies

Absent the ACA, people could be denied health insurance for any reason.

To get health insurance, someone needs to want to insure you.
And ya need to be able to AFFORD it

The healthcare industry is not ā€œdestroyedā€. Not even close.

There are a lot of reasons why healthcare costs a lot of money.

People aren’t very healthy
The medical industry is better at extending the lives of people with chronic conditions
New drugs are effective and expensive
The country is getting older
The labor force for medical providers is tighter than it could be

Lots of reasons, and very little to do with politics.

We aren’t addressing healthcare costs much in this country, for various reasons. All we do is argue about how it’s paid.
Obamacare drove health premiums up so high that now even the middle class can’t afford insurance unless someone else pays for it.

Obamacare also obliterated the individual market. And that was by intent, as well. Obama and the libs didn’t want responsible people being able to purchase plans on their own. They wanted people dependent on government handouts.

That is how Dems get votes. This time, it’s ā€œvote for us, and other people will pay for your insurance premiums.ā€

Not true.

Healthcare cost increases did not accelerate after the ACA was passed.

In fact increases slowed

Health premiums are up because costs are up. Costs are up for a lot of reasons. One of which is that people who need medical care can actually get medical care.

Before the ACA, the individual market was not a reliable place for people to get insurance. The only reason it was affordable for some is because insurance companies could exclude whoever they wanted, exclude any conditions or treatments they wanted, and charge whatever they wanted.

Dems wanted everyone to get insurance coverage and this was the best they could come up with.

I’ll respond. And then I expect you to respond

You won’t

Why do I think people are entitled to healthcare they can afford?

Because in the richest country in the world we shouldn’t die or be bankrupted when we get serious illnesses that are treatable.

Now why do you think we should die or be bankrupted??

They use the word entitled to generate an emotional response. They're "entitled" because we as a nation decided they're "entitled" since that's the right thing to do.

Just like we are "entitled" to get an education or any number of other systems we've put in place to live in a highly functional society.

As exppected: You believe you are entitled to other people's wealth just because they have wealth, and you believe you are entitled to have the state to force those people to provide you with same.

Your degree of inexplicable self-importance cannot be overstated.

Why do you think people should simply die when they get sick
The same reason they should die if they cannot feed or shelter themselves -- that's how the laws of nature work.

"Let disabled people die" is a pretty hot take.

Four House Republicans force vote on ACA subsidies, bucking GOP leadership

Four moderate House Republicans rebelled against House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday, joining Democrats to force a vote on extending key Affordable Care Act subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year.

If approved, the measure will extend ACA tax credits for three years.

If those subsidies expire as scheduled, the prices of Obamacare health insurance premiums that millions of Americans personally pay will skyrocket.

The stunning defections by the quarter of Republicans came a day after Johnson, R-La., said that GOP leaders would not allow a vote under normal procedures on keeping the enhanced ACA tax credits alive into 2026.

Johnson earlier Wednesday morning urged GOP caucus members not to join Democrats in the procedural end-run around him.

Another weak R Speaker who can't control his nutty caucus.
