The State of the Union is one of the very few times I listen to what a President has to say.

Presidents typically get out their budget proposal for the next fiscal year in March or so, and this address gives a head up of what's coming in the way of priorities. I see it as a time where he lays his cards on the table. It's an opportunity to open the debate on which direction we should go. Cancelling it would lead me to believe the opposition has no backbone for a fight.
