Question For John Atheist: Don't You Want To Remember Your Good Deeds Forever?

So, if you die and life ends and there is no eternity, why would anyone care?
By not being able to immediately think of about 100 answers, you expose your own mental and moral problems. Not anyone else's.
There is no morality without GOD, only personal opinion and desire. Plus, the highest suicide rate is (a mental barometer) shamefully among those with no religious affiliation ------ that would be atheists and agnostics...
Is this the same God who wiped out just about every man, women, child, and animal in a flood? The God to order Israelites to invade foreign countries, commit genocide, and make slaves of their enemies? The God that punishes the innocent?
This is the very same GOD who knows all about everything and even all about you. When Sodom and Gomorrah and the other cities of the plain were to be annihilated, Abraham had a conversation with GOD in which he got GOD to promise that HE would not destroy those cites if there were at least 10 righteous people living somewhere in that mess. Guess what, there were not and so HE did. The fact is ----- if all the righteous people today were to die off, the rest of the population would be in deep deep trouble, because GOD knows. GOD doesn't punish innocent people. For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD. A righteous person isn't without sin; however, the righteous person has faith in GOD and not himself or his possessions and abilities. It's called being humble. There are not many people like that today, most have far too much garbage on their mind to care...

Yep. The same god that brought us the morality of the Dark Ages. You know, when women were property, brown people were slaves, heretics were murdered, etc.

Of course, our morality only improved once christianity was reformed by superior, secular ideas.

So this thread is a joke.
Guess what? In many areas in Africa there is still slavery and it doesn't involve "Christians." And for that matter the vast majority of offenders are not even white... Forced labor in Sub-Saharan Africa is estimated at 660,000. This includes people involved in the illegal diamond mines of Sierra Leone and Liberia, which is also a direct result of the civil war in these regions. In 2017, the International Labour Office estimated that 1,000 people in Africa are victims of slavery.

Is death a punishment?

Why do you read these accounts literally?

Someone wrote these accounts that have made it into scripture. Historical or not they represent the morality of the Bible.

And yes, I consider death a punishment and I believe the Bible does too. You don't stone an adulterer to death as a reward.

Then you must believe that everyone is going to be punished because everyone dies.

You read the bible to confirm your bias. That's reality. So you and I will likely never agree on what the meaning of passages are because you read the Bible like a jackass.

This is the very same god(s) used by Christians to burn, smoosh, brutalize, kill, disembowel and otherwise enjoy the company of the “wrong kind” of Christians.

GOD doesn't punish innocent people? You think that in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah there were no babies or children?
Your mistake is to think these cultists are not insane. Remember, with original sin, there is no such thing as an innocent baby.

Can you IMAGINE having such a nauseating morality?

They're not cultists, they're people. There are plenty of examples of whole groups that shared that morality throughout history: Naziis vs. Slavs & Jews, slave owners vs slaves, Mongols vs Cossacks, Turks vs Armenians, Japanese vs Chinese, Europeans vs Native Americans, etc. Any group that 'knows' they are morally superior or have God on their side, have the right to eliminate anything or anyone in their way. For the greater good, of course.

They're not cultists, they're people.
Who are cultists.

They believe this idea of ALL babies ever born. Anywhere. So none of what you listed is a good comparison.

If you believe there are no such things as innocent babies because your celestial dictator says so... Yes, you are a cultist.

you must believe that everyone is going to be punished because everyone dies.
Yep. Punished for living but not judged.
What’s the difference? Dead is dead.
The rain (and death) fall on the just and unjust alike.
Still not getting YOUR point. I understand what that scripture means. I don't understand what YOU mean.

What's the difference to YOU for everyone being punished but not judged?

You read the bible to confirm your bias. That's reality. So you and I will likely never agree on what the meaning of passages are because you read the Bible like a jackass.
Funny, I was thinking the same about you.
If you had started from the belief that the first eleven chapters of the Torah are an allegorical account of world history before the migration from Mesopotamia - which was an actual historical event - then the first eleven chapters of the Torah would mean something different to you. If you had seen these accounts in that light - their true light - you wouldn't have viewed these accounts as fairy tales. You would have viewed these accounts more like how important information was passed down in ancient times. That just as the Chinese used well known history and everyday things as symbols in their written language to make words easier to remember, ancient man used stories to pass down historical events and important knowledge to future generations to make them easier to remember and pass down. Instead you have chosen to read these accounts critically instead of searching for the wisdom that ancient man knew and found important enough to include in his account of world history.

So how exactly am I confirming my bias? Is it that I don't view them as fairy tales?

That's quite a simple worldview you have there.
