“U.S. consumers will see higher prices at the gas pump from President Donald Trump's decision on Saturday to apply tariffs on Canadian and Mexican oil, according to analysts and fuel traders.

The likely hike in fuel prices reflects the double-edged nature of Trump's trade protections which are designed to bolster domestic business and pressure U.S. neighbors to curb illegal immigration and drug smuggling, but which will also run counter to his promises to tackle inflation.

The U.S. imports some 4 million barrels per day of Canadian oil, 70% of which is processed by refiners in the Midwest. It also imports over 450,000 bpd of Mexican oil, mainly for refiners concentrated around the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Tariffs on those imports mean higher costs for making finished fuels like gasoline, much of which is likely to be passed along to U.S. consumers.”

Higher costs for Trump voters, the consequence of their ignorance and stupidity.

You don’t exactly have a great track record when it comes to predictions about Trump:

If tariffs are so bad, why are Canada and Mexico threatening to retaliate with their own tariffs?

Wouldn’t they just be rising prices on their own citizens?

Both Canada and Mexico have already applied them. China should have been his focus, but he was convinced to spread out the 60% of tariffs to other nations. U.S car companies may have to open up in the U.S, I'm not sure how this will all play out. Trumps best play politicially would be to discuss how he will give the tariffs collected back to the American people in the form.of tax cuts for.businesses and citizens, pay down the debt etc. Canadians will pay higher prices too as Canandian companies are too weak to absorb the tariff costs that Canada applied the U.S goods. American companies might be able to absorb more so it might impact Americans less. This is going to be an interesting four years, President Xi is probably quite relieved he got off light (though this is on top of already higher tariffs ahainst China)

Ooooo scary. :auiqs.jpg:

The US consumes around 20.25 million barrels of petroleum per day, so a dinky 450,000 bpd of Mexican oil doesn't amount to shit. And we will easily make up for Canada's 4 million bpd as soon as we start drilling in the ANWR in Alaska. I seriously doubt we're going to see much of a rise in the gas prices because of your doomsday prediction. Nothing like it was under Biden/Harris, when some parts of the country were paying $7 per gallon.

Red hats don`t care. They support the convicted felon because he hates the same people who they hate and that would be everyone who isn`t a white male.

Well, we rely on U.S refining of this gas, so we are lucky its only 10% on oil. Trump has a plan, he will stick with it at least 6 months though they could become permanent which would drive even more Canadian talent to the U.S. We became a massive covert police state especially in Ontario and thus dont innovate.

if you are convicted you go to jail and is he? it's called smoke and mirrors buddy as the libs tried everything to keep him from running and failed. so you are calling trump a racist eh? odd how he garnered a good chunk of black and brown votes and won the popular
your side failed and badly, suck up and move on instead of crying about it

Politically, what choices do they have if they want to discourage tariffs? They want us to feel the pain of tariffs, even though they know it's going to hurt them. They're not the ones who started the trade war.

Your question us like asking if someone doesn't like fighting, why would they punch back after getting sucker-punched - wouldn't it be better to just keep getting punched?

Tariffs on oil are not a big deal.
Tthe US uses 19m bbls a day
We produce 13m bbls a day
So a 10% tariff on 6m bbls of imported oil should not be a big increase at the pump.

More Americans are dying of Fentanyl overdoses than we lost in Vietnam. Trump is sending a message to the Chinese that their behavior will no longer be tolerated. Trust me, that message will NOT be lost on the Chinese!

Yet China's getting lower tariffs than the Canadians despite the fact that the vast majority of fentanyl comes from the southern border. Tariffs on Canada make no sense. Seems like the only reason to tariff China is the fact that Canadians think we're stupid. We're not exactly disabusing them of that notion right now.

US manufacturers are also no longer able to get a refund on raw materials that get imported for the purpose of making export goods. This is going to have consequences beyond just energy imports.

I'm probably among the few lib-progs who are not necessarily against the idea of tariffs for the purposes of national security and re-thinking US trade, but there's a right way and a wrong way to go about it, and I think this is all too much, too soon. I don't think the administration has really thought this out.

You legitimise maga idiocy by answering his question. The fact he even asked it is proof he us ultra dumb.

We are getting rid of the income tax, so tariffs will be our main way of collecting funds for the government.
