Illinois Thanks Trump: Balances Budget With Gas Tax Windfall From Rising Prices

Well, who would have thought that Donald Trump would be the white knight Illinois needed to balance its budget? Illinois was able to close their entire budget shortfall with increased revenues from gas taxes due to the sky rocketing price of gas. The state owes Donald Trump a thank you for the revenue. Not only does Trump make oil companies rich he is MIGA.. Make Illinois Great Again.

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois lawmakers went into overtime and worked into the early morning Monday to send Gov. JB Pritzker a nearly $56 billion election-year state spending plan that was balanced, in part, with an anticipated windfall of sales tax revenue resulting from soaring gas prices.

Pritzker and fellow Democrats are building their November general election campaigns around the issue of affordability, blaming Republican President Donald Trump and his allies for cuts to social programs and for rising prices on necessities — most notably gasoline, which has jumped from an average of about $2.91 per gallon in Chicago to $4.82 since the Iran war began in late February.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, states impose their own gas taxes. Has nothing to do with federal gas taxes for the price of gas. But, you can thank Trump for encouraging gas driven vehicles and discouraging EV's, which led to more gas being sold, which, of course, means more state gas tax revenue being collected due to the increased consumption of gas by gas powered vehicles.

While the flat state motor fuel tax stays at 48.3 cents per gallon regardless of the price of oil, the 6.25% state gas sales tax fluctuates. Because it is a percentage, the dollar amount collected scales directly with the price of gas.
  • At $3.00/gallon: The 6.25% sales tax adds roughly 18.7 cents per gallon.
  • At $5.00/gallon: The same 6.25% sales tax jumps to 31.2 cents per gallon.
  • This compounding effect (essentially a "tax on a tax") recently generated an unexpected $150 million windfall in extra sales tax revenue for Illinois due to high gas prices.
The windfall was from Trump spiking gas prices with war. Thanks Trump!

Thank God, or in heathen Illinois case some golden calf in the statehouse for a silver lining inside high gas prices

I see what you're saying now. You're saying that these dem states have rigged the gas tax system to gouge more money from their tax payers and are guilty of social injustice since this effects the poor and minorities more than the rich white people. Maybe you could post a link from your duplicate thread of when the price of gas under Biden was even higher than the price of gas now. I don't remember seeing your same post back then.

All of that money and much more has been thrown away in wars alone.
Wars that have made us weaker on the whole.
Trump is the illusion of change, and a poor one at that.
He cuts Medicare by $800B, takes that and uses it as a tax cut for corporations and billionaires...and then starts a world economy choking war with Iran!
He is a ******* moron.
I think the problem Trump is running into is this; you can't make America great AND suck off the Jews in Israel at the same time.
How have wars made us weaker?

How have wars made us weaker?
One way, just off the top of my head.

And how is that different from any war? What war has not resulted in depletion or capacity or made us weak??
Well, genius, one does not expose their underbelly (severely depleting defensive missile stocks) fighting wars that are not in direct defense of their shores.

HOWEVER, we are a slave state of Israel. So, ANYTHING to defend the Jews.
THEREFORE, Einstein, we have been weakened to defend AMERICA.

Leftwingers don’t understand economics. That’s the most glaring thing I observe in here.

Parrot.
I already posted it (post #3)....No need to repeat myself to lying idiots.
Already responded to... Mashmont doesn't read the entire thread either... it would seem.

That's another reason why I need to do that up here.

Another example of "make the rich pay their fair share" while in reality this added cost hurt the poor and middle class.
The dems in ILL have a massively high gas tax…it’s why people are fleeing places like that

That the Dems raised taxes massively on the working class of Ill
No taxes were raised genius. The tax is a percent of sales... Trump raised the sales price of gasoline by losing the war with Iran. Now, as a result, the current tax rates are generating $150M more of income thanks to Trump. Thanks Trump!!!

It’s sad the Dems are bragging about high gas taxes and creating millions and millions of news taxes on the working class

Dems wonder why people that can are fleeing their leftist regimes

You are a liar…the Dems raised 800 million in new taxes to get this budget

800 million in new taxes on the working class of Ill

The only relief the people of Ill are getting is the tax cuts from Trump and the gop on the federal level

I was specifically referring to the gas tax which this thread is about. This isnt about Trump's tariff tax increases or the other ones you listed. The fact is $150M of increased income comes.. not from tax increases.. but from the higher sales of gasoline from Trump's price spike. THANKS TRUMP. That allowed Illinois to close the final gap in their budget. Nice job.

You say severe depletion. How does that compare to other wars? Speaking of depletion, how about the $7B of Military equipment abandoned into enemy hands in Afghanistan? How did that move strengthen America?

No it's nothing to do with tariffs....this thread is about the budget in ILL, and you claiming it had to do with the price of gas, when it in fact has to do with the hundreds of millions of new taxes and tax increases the dems are putting on the working class in Ill
