I knew a guy who was a psychologist and he was a class a jerk. He picked apart everyone he met and tried to pry into their lives. Ironic as hell because he was one of the most screwed up people I'd ever met. His previous occupation was undertaker. Said he became a psychologist because he wanted to understand himself better. That's all I wanted to hear. So long, buddy.
I had this smoking hot psychology prof in undergrad school. She had a practice and taught some advanced courses. I was a poly sci major but decided to take her course called "Death and Dying", mainly because she was hot and I was into hardcore death metal at the time and the subject matter sounded right up my alley. I hung out and chatted with her a few times after class. One time the topic, at my direction, turned to the psychological makeup of psychologists and psychiatrists. She agreed that they are generally some pretty fucked up people, especially the ones in psychology. Yes, this is only anecdotal, but it is still probative of the proposition that a lot of these folks are fucking nuts.I knew a guy who was a psychologist and he was a class a jerk. A psychiatrist is an MD who can prescribe meds. They usually stick to the medical side of things and get a psychologist/counselor to do the therapy sessions, but not always. Some are good.
But counseling only works if you are willing to do work at changing yourself.
A psychologist or psychiatrist is simply a life coach. They suggest things, you do them or not. YOU are the one doing the work.
You could buy a book about your "issue" and get the same results, as long as you are willing to TRY what is suggested to "fix" you.
If you are looking for a quick fix, go to your MD and get pills.

You can still get good drugs from your GP.

Psychiatric conditions are real and many time result from chemical imbalances. There are both psychiatric problems that have biological origins and there are emotional problems that may have environmental origins, .

It didn't work on you, eh?
Some things are just broken beyond repair, I guess.
