OLF is kaput... gone... done... along with 20 years of content.

.net is still kicking... just undergoing a remodel, from what I understand.

I didn't really give this place a fair shake when I first joined a couple of years ago, but yeah... I probably will make it a regular stop. I like it.

I respect the cops (for the most part) but there is no way on hell i would ever want that job... not for what the make and have to put up with.

I have read the rules, a couple of times now actually. It's pretty cut and dry stuff, but still not what I'm used too. I totally agree that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar as well... but I've always given what I get too, so there is that.

Where I came from literally had two rules.

No racial slurs in thread titles, no doxxing... and no porn. So there were three rules.

I've not seen racial slurs nor
much other bad stuff In the 14 years since I joined. It doesn't look like it, but before my husband passed in 2016, I was not here long enough and forgot my password. So the moderators let me check in as beautress, my grandma's middle name. We have very kind mods. I recommend debating at USMB. Things may not always go your way, but you'll find people who like you.

Damn. A lot of the original content from 20 years ago was some good stuff. I was wondering how long it would take for it crash after it changed hands.

The new ownwer couldn't get advertisers. That's what happens when you open up to the white supremecist trash. The advertisers will drop you immediately. .net isn't going to get any either, unless the name is changed. LF has permanent baggage attached to it.

There had been issues for the year prior that mostly had to do with paying for the hosting... or more specifically not paying for the hosting. LOL

Everyone was under the assumption that the issues had been resolved and that it was gonna smooth out because it had been staying up consistently for a couple of months straight and then *click... the lights went out.

No warning or explanation was ever given either... just shut it down and see ya in the funny papers.

I personally think the fool just lost interest and started working on other projects more than anything. Rumor was he was trying to sell it before all the data got wiped, but he was asking way too much and couldn't get any takers... and of course now,, there is nothing to sell but the domain name.

So goes life on Al Gore's internet.

Being a moderator on sites like these sucks.

Someone always gets butthurt no matter what call you make, and it almost always spills over into the day to day discussions so, it really hinders your participation. I would much rather just be a member and post and not fool with that crap.

I commend anyone that voluntarily moderates a site like this because it really does blow for the moderator... I know first hand.

Hmm, not that I disagree but there some mods that don't deserve a commendation, for them it's a power trip and they actually like to suck.. you weren't here last year but a lot of us know first hand..

Agreed, but for the most part, that's not the case.

Same with cops. The majority of them are decent folks, but everyone always remembers the asshole they encountered 20 years ago.

20 years, I still remember the asshole from 45 years ago.. lol.. redbeard, the local motorcycle cop, he made it his mission to harrass kids who were just having some fun, it was a good thing he was a fat guy so he couldn't catch us when he had to get of his motorcycle and chase us on foot in the woods..

I'm talking about the cop that takes a simple interaction to the next level because he's on a power trip... like the 25 year old State Trooper that calls a 56 year old man a "boy" during a traffic stop, and then gets the red ass because the guy he pulled over starts giving him shit.

Where I come from, referring to people as ''boy'' is just everyday casual speak.

I think people who take offense to it probably have self-esteem issues. Which, of course, leads to other issues.

Depends on where you are I suppose... and the tone in the delivery makes a difference as well. In the South it's seen as a slight, especially if a white person directs it towards a black person.

Plus... coming from a cop during a traffic stop isn't necessarily "professional" either... and exudes a sense of superiority over the citizen.
