They seceded for slavery -- they felt losing that right to own slaves was an attack on their way of life -- stop acting coy about how they were willing to go to war over owning slaves. The common argument I keep hearing from these slavery apologists is that slaves should have just been more patient and maybe in 40 or 50 years slavery would have ended naturallyHow could they have written that the Civil War was over slavery when the Civil War was not happening during the time the quotes you've supplied were written?
So you tell me -- how long should those slaves have waited to be allowed to live as free men? Escaping to the North wasn't always the option since we had that Fugitive slave act -- so tell me -- how long would you have waited to not be raped, murdered and tortured?
Its always convenient for the demographic who wasn't historically enslaved to tell those who were how they should have been patient or how the plight of their ancestors wasn't that bad
