It was practiced in the early Church, and doctrine is established by the Church. That Church used to be the Catholic Church, which through their tradition was able to establish which books should be added to the NT canon and which doctrines the Church would adopt. Are you a Catholic? No. Show me in the Bible, where it states that the Bible is the only source of doctrine. Even the Bible doesn't support your doctrine of Sola Scriptura. The Church establishes doctrine on the authority of the magisterium and Church tradition, not Sola Scriptura. The ancient view of Church authority was always that the Church and its apostolic priesthood carries more weight than the Bible. It's one mention of some who practice it. Thar isn't a Doctrine. It's the exact same kind of error that Jehovah's Witnesses make about blood transfusions.
The Catholic Church fell into error early in its history and God chose an American prophet in the 19th century to restore His Church. It's that simple. The authority is in the Church, it's leadership, not a book. The book has to be interpreted, so even if your Bible is supposedly inerrant, your interpretation of the inerrant book isn't inerrant. However, if God sends a prophet then that's a whole different situation.
