I've left pennies on my grandfathers, great grandfathers, great great grandfathers, etc. all the way back to my 8th Great Grandfathers graves today. They all lived near each other in one county so I didn't have to travel far. All were in the military at some point in their lives.

I have never heard of that tradition. We go out to clean up the cemetery bring food and eat and place flags on those who died in service. Another group bought the cemetery and church grounds and had them locked up so we had to end the tradition.

Germany. Our family has been German all the way up until the 1990s, when my father married a full blooded Czechoslovakian.
