Michael Cohen has already been convicted for violating campaign finance laws when he paid off Trump's mistresses.

Trump isn't being tried for that. He is being tried for cooking the books when he repaid Cohen.

Now, ordinarily, cooking the books would have been a misdemeanor. However, because Trump did it to cover up Cohen's crimes, this elevates Trump's crimes to a felony.

But the point is that Cohen did nothing remotely illegal, and neither did Trump by repaying Cohen.
Cohen actually plead guilty because they has evidence against his wife and they blackmailed him into pleading guilty to something that was not even remotely illegal.

It is NOT illegal to cover up blackmail payments, and NEVER can be illegal.
That would facilitate blackmail, and any attempt to legislate that would be inherently criminal.
These prosecutions are clearly inherently criminal.
What Trump and Cohen did was perfectly legal.

The Trump Department of Justice didn't think this trial was a joke or the charges were merely political when the Trump DOJ prosecuted and jailed Michael Cohen for committing the campaign finance crimes.

Why is it that everyone who does Trump's bidding ends up in jaill and but charging the guy who ordered them to commit these crimes, is merely political????

Incidentally, in addition to all of the lawyers who have been disbarred, criminally charged, and/or sanctioned for doing Trump's bidding, the judge today requested that the DA file for sanctions against Trump's attorneys in this case because of their blatant lies to the court in their Motions.

As officers of the Court, they cannot lie to the Court in their filings. Lying to the Courts will get you disbarred, and quickly.

The authority for law comes from the defense of the rights of victims.

Take the Bannon case for example.
He was soliciting for money to build the wall.
Which he then spent on campaigns and elections to get people in power who could build a wall.
He was then illegally charged for not spending the money on buying wall construction material, which would be pointless since as a private person, he can not directly construct a border wall. Bannon was doing exactly what the contributors wanted, so it was illegal to prosecute him.

The media is the first place I’d clean house. Time to write stronger liable and slander laws. Make it easier to prosecute. At this point, the Dems idea of balanced media they have tried to get would work against them at this point. Right now, media is 95%-5% for Democrats. Going to 50-50% would be a great progressive improvement for the conservatives and Republicans. At the same time, all Democrats must be eliminated from all Federal jobs starting at the top of every Federal agency.
