In another thread, I make the case (briefly) that the political Left in this country employs an unethical and illegal strategy of using the COURTS to modify the laws and Constitution, because they can never win the battles of policy based on cogent, rational arguments in the legislatures.
This is yet another example.
If the Administration believes that the various states' criminal laws dealing with what it considers "minor" offenses are destructive, then THE APPROPRIATE FORUM IN WHICH TO MAKE THIS CASE IS IN THE STATEL LEGISLATURES AND THE LOCAL COUNCILS, ETC. That is where these laws and ordinances are written. The police are sworn to uphold the law, so going after the POLICE and telling them to adjust the way they respond to law-breaking is, to coin a word, bullshit.
If the Administration thinks these laws ought to be modified, then the Justice Department could easily publish a set of guidelines and ASK the state and local legislatures to comply, making their case with facts and logic.
I'm not holding my breath until that happens.
