LeVar Burton wants you to read banned books

Awww, isn't that cute. You think you have some "Gotcha" thing going on.

No, I do not support many of the book bans. And if you think supporting one ban (removing porn) means supporting all the bans (removing time honored classics), you are an idiot.
Curious what time honored classics were banned? And are these book restricted at school libraries or actually banned books (cannot be bought or sold in Florida locals)? It sounds like you are for “book bans” as long as they are books you approve.

Just curious...

Do you think it's okay for children to see images of a person being horribly tortured to death?
Nope. Do you?

I noticed in an earlier post you support WEF/Democrats providing sexually explicit material to 12 year olds.

You said "I don't believe any "lewd material" was accessible to anyone under 12." to justify giving porn to kids.

Why do you support providing "Lewd material" to 12 year olds?

Just as an FYI, it is illegal to provide access to pornography to children. Prosecute anyone who does.

The current fight is really over sexual material, and you know it.

Because some holier than thou LGBT idiot in the library would ignore the parents.
Many of the books have nothing to do with sexually explicit material. Many of them were banned because republicans in florida seeason as pro-LGBTQ,

^^^ wants ALL the banned books put back.

Americans know why

MTG is RIGHT!!!

At no time have people who banned books been in the right.

But I like the responses from the world. Not just LeVar Burton, but others.

The artist Pink will be giving out banned books on her tour.

Some of these books are straight up pornographic and absolutely should be banned from schools. The problem is it tends to be the extremists who decide what's inappropriate and then they start removing things that shouldn't be.

Removing inappropriate books from school libraries where children have access to them is not banning books.

Yeah, that point has been made several times.

But I am too lazy to type "Banning books in public school libraries", so I assume the people reading the thread will understand.

What drives people to silence others, and quash the free exchange of ideas?

“When I read Fahrenheit 451 for the first time,” LeVar Burton says, “I couldn’t imagine that situation in my reality. It was a shame, right? Wow. Those poor people in that misguided society. I live in that society now. That dystopian story has become my truth.”

LeVar Burton Wants You to Read Banned Books

Florida, the leading state, banned over 500 books. Florida’s governor is a huge proponent of that. This is massively concerning to the majority of Americans who do not support book bans.

Burton compares the banning of books to attempts to control women's bodies:

"This is part of a movement that we are battling for control over our minds and our bodies."

While liberals have been justifiably criticized for their efforts to alter classic works of fiction, conservatives seem to be pursuing a deeper and more pervasive effort to deny access to books they deem unacceptable.

But these same conservatives are the first to decry what they correctly describe as the war on conservative speech online, and the so-called "cancellation" of those who may have engaged in unpopular/unfashionable expression.

Why this disconnect?

Will the Constitution prevail, or are we on a steep slide into cultural darkness?
Are you there?

Nice try. I said nothing about providing sexual literature. But providing such literature when age appropriate should work.

Or, as I said, how about making a list and sending to the parents and let THEM decide.

Have you ever been a kid? I’d read the exact books my parents said not to read. Worse case scenario, I’d wait until I turned 18. You can’t hide stuff from kids forever without a violent mafia backing it. It is so naive to think you can prevent kids from developing into informed functional adults. Why would you even want to?

So since they NY Times did it, all newspapers are liars and all their articles are lies? Ok then.
This is the mindset we're dealing with, yes.

Perpetually hysterical, enraged, ignorant.

And that's the way they want EVERYONE it would seem.

Enter these book bans.

Spare me your drivel. Once again you are speaking lies and about what you do not know.
You're :banghead:.

Literally nothing gets through.

Ever.

Chaos and destruction - including book bans - are all they know.

A perpetual J6.

Smut, snowflake? :laughing0301:

Moms for Liberty (an ironic name if ever there was one) opposes Ruby Bridges Goes to School: My True Story being allowed in school libraries.

One of their complaints about the book is that it has Norman Rockwell's The Problem We All Live With in it.

The tolerant Right.

Here's your "smut", dipshit:

Hey BackAgain. Take note of the PROPER use of sic in that first graphic.

You're welcome.
They're intractable.

are the books available at bookstores? If so, then they are not banned. If they are removed from school libraries because they are not age appropriate, then they are not banned, they were removed for the same reason you wouldn’t have hustler, or explicit romantic novels in a school library.

That article really didn’t shed light on the books that Florida has banned, I think the best thing is I’ll just look at the list of books Florida has banned and go through some of them to see just what’s in them.

By the way, I think it’s kind of funny what the whole moveon.org thing is doing with the book mobile, where they are driving around handing out books on the banned list for free. They are just wasting money. You see, those books are not banned. They are all probably available at any bookstore in town, they are just not allowed in schools.

So, they are driving around handing those books to people who could readily get them any time they wanted by going to a book store.
