You're correct in that your not a firearms expert..
Yeah.....I said that, which is why I offer this as an opinion based in the information feom people who know more about it than I do.
The ammunition used is the shooting was more than likely hunting ammo that when striking bone causing almost immediate expansion.
The official narrative is it a .30-06 round.
This guy gives an example of what that would do to a bone. Even if it deflected, seems like there should be an exit wound. A bullet with that kind of power, even if it deflected into the cranial cavity, should have caused damage to the head.
The bullet most likely hit Kirk's clavicle causing the damage to his upper chest, neck and face.
I mean, it's possible, but again, some of the experts im watching are skeptical of that. Had he been wearing plate armor, they agree that might be the case, but without that, they dont seem to support a deflection off the collar bone.
