Great post.Again, is Jesus "The Christ" to the millions of people his Church healed and potentially saved through their healthcare system?
You don't need to have dogmatic or even spiritual beliefs to call Jesus The Christ - knowledge of his works and the works of his Church should be evidence enough.
However you seem to have left out the minor detail that the church professes to believe that Jesus was God in human form which is both a logical and biblical impossibility if one accepts the teaching of the Law and the Prophets which unequivocally states that God is Spirit, not human, and the common knowledge that anyone who claims to be God is at best insane. Jesus claimed to speak for God who told him what two say and how to say it, therefore any comment like "before Abraham was born I am" it is God speaking through Jesus which does not make Jesus God anymore than any prophet who spoke for God was God. Jesus even told his disciples to not worry about what to say when brought before "authorities" because it will be the Spirit of their Father in Heaven speaking through them.
That being said I know that many Catholics friends and family etc., are not assholes like ding. In fact I also know from experience that many priests and members of the clergy are sincerely devoted to Christ and have been waiting with their ear to the ground for their entire lives hoping to hear the voice of reason, the Spirit of truth, in order to see Jesus face to face.
So yes, I agree that Jesus is the Christ, but not that he was God. Your church teaching that the Body of Christ can be made by human hands and eaten is the epitome of idolatry, a sin under penalty of death, a curse, (not to mention stupid), So your church churns out idolators and then when many just don't have what it takes to be a phony for life become destitute your church steps in to serve soup or care for the sick and mentally ill that they have created.
Thats like a fireman starting a fire hoping to be perceived as a hero for trying to put it out.
The truth is that with a stroke of a pen the Pope can abolish this practice of celebrating human sacrifice of "the Christ", an innocent man, the Jewish Messiah, to a Roman trinity which would do more good for the billions of rich or poor healthy or sick practicing or lapsed Catholics than all the soup kitchens, shelters, and hospitals in the entire world combined.
