Because Britain was almost as anti-Jewish as Nazi Germany.

Yes, they do seem to wear out their welcome wherever they go.

That said, it was the British who came up with the Balfour Declaration to try to settle the place with Proxy Colonists to expand their influence. The funny thing is, between 1919 and 1945, not a whole lot of Europe's Jews were that keen on the idea.

That changed after the war... But the concept of giving them the Palestinians' land because Europe felt bad about the Holocaust is like me giving away your house to a black family because I feel bad about slavery.

(COMMENT)

In 1944, the term Palestine meant something different (defined differently) then it is today.

Palestine Order in Council 1922 said:
The limits of this Order are the territories to which the Mandate for Palestine applies, hereinafter described as Palestine.
SOURCE: The Palestine Order in Council 10 August 1922
The Key phrase being: hereinafter described as Palestine
Political History of Palestine under British Administration said:
From 1922 until the present day, the High Commissioner has governed Palestine with the aid of Councils consisting exclusively of British officials.
SOURCE: A/AC.14/8 2 October 1947
Successor State Memorandum said:
"Palestine is today a legal entity but it is not a sovereign state. Palestine is a territory administered under mandate by His Majesty (in respect of the United Kingdom), who is entirely responsible both for its internal administration and for its foreign affairs.
SOURCE: PAL138 27 February 1948
The Government of Palestine was a "Legal Entity" merely called Palestine, but recognized as totally under the responsibility of the UK. "Later in 1923, a third attempt was made to establish an institution through which the Arab population of Palestine could be brought into cooperation with the government." The Arab leaders declined that this offer on the ground that it would not satisfy the aspirations of the Arab people. They added that, never having recognised the status of the Jewish Agency, they had no desire for the establishment of an Arab Agency on the same basis. The Arab leaders declined that this offer on the ground that it would not satisfy the aspirations of the Arab people. → AND → The Arab leaders declined that this offer on the ground that it would not satisfy the aspirations of the Arab people. They added that, never having recognised the status of the Jewish Agency, they had no desire for the establishment of an Arab Agency on the same basis.

This attitude persisted for more than a quarter-century.

◈ The Jewish Immigrants formed a "Jewish Agency."
◈ The Arab Higher Committee rejected the notion to form an "Arab Agency."

The consequence of those two decisions at the outset, after the closure of the Occupied Enemy Territory Administration (OETA) and the activation of the British Civil Administration (Mandate Authority), had a definite impact on the success of the Jewish State and the chaos of the Arab Palestinians.

(SIDEBAR)

There is a very interesting
Memorandum from the UN Under Secretary-General for Legal Affairs that stated (as one of many points) that:

EXCERT of Memorandum from the UN Under Secretary-General for Legal Affairs.webp

Another interesting point to be made is during period 1988 to 2012 (nearly a quarter-century) it was the PLO that declared independence as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people based on the Resolution of the Seventh Arab League Summit Conference (1974), more than a decade later.
Annex III • Declaration of Independence said:
The Palestine National Council hereby declares, in the Name of God and on behalf of the Palestinian Arab people, the establishment of the State of Palestine in the land of Palestine with its capital at Jerusalem.
