I don't know how old you are or if you have an understanding of history, but do you remember what they called a Saturday Night Special? Those were cheap, concealable handguns used by criminals. But today we have high capacity magazines and semi-automatic firing systems. Those make guns more dangerous than ever.

But there is a generation raised on Rambo movies and they seem to think battlefield weapons are cool and should be available to the public. And that's the root of our gun culture and the reason for our current string of tragedies.

So who said a good guy with a gun is a guarantee to stop a bad guy with a gun? Nobody. They said the "only way" to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun; no guarantee offered.

The story is still unclear, but do you think anybody would have done the same heroic thing in anti-gun California or New York? Of course not, the hero probably would have been arrested and convicted.
