In light of the Texas church massacre I want to head off the gun control debate with a few facts.

Solution to what? I' rather just take your stance and just say nothing will ever work. So, whoever replies with an idea I have a simple easy to apply position.

Just cup your hands around your mouth and yell "that won't work!" Super easy.
Just admit you have no ideas and save us from all your bullshit...

Your only idea is to do nothing and then beg others for their ideas so you can just respond that it won't work.

This is literally the easiest opinion to have...
Apparently number 4 was far to complicated for you to comprehend.

Stop wasting bandwidth if you have nothing to say of substance.

Yes, "focusing on anger" is a wham bam idea. Tell us how you do that or bring out the drum circle and lead the first verse of Kumbaya. This is just like every other gun nut thread.

Take a tragedy then say there is nothing we could do ever to prevent it. Type "thoughts and prayers" and hope for kindness and keep it moving.

Wait until the next massacre..

Copy and paste your do nothing ideas
When I got out of prison I traveled to inner city schools and counseled troubled teens. I am willing to bet that some of those kids are free men today because someone cared enough to show interest in them.

That is what number 4 means.

I did my part. You?

That's' not a national policy and indivisual acts of kindness won't stop mass shootings.

That was community service required for your release. Gtfoh.

1. The only thing that would cut down on this kind of shit is a complete gun ban coordinated with a confiscation program.
1a. That is a literal impossiility for two reasons. The constitution & there are more guns in the wild than citizens.

But yet every other industrialized nation limits who can have guns and these things don't happen there.

2. Criminals DO NOT OBEY LAWS.

3.People who go into some kind of rage based on emotions DO NOT THINK THEIR ACTIONS THROUGH.

Agreed... but the two things we are going to find out about this guy.

1) Everyone in his life knew he was severely disturbed.
2) Despite that, he had no problem getting a lot of guns and ammo.

We find these two things out after every last shooting. SO while the right is hoping that this is a Muslim and the left is hoping it's an angry white guy, we won't address the issue...
Because we never do
The cat is out of the bag. Putting him back in is impossible so let's put our focus where we can possibly have an impact.

Your second points are worth a debate for sure but I have no idea where we begin.

4. Focus your anger/outrage where it can actually have a positive outcome. Our problems do not stem from the gun, they stem from the human condition and all the complications that go with it.

5. Remember point number 1.

100% wrong, and this is really an embarrassing bit of surrender on your part.

It was not community service. It was me realizing that I wish I had listened to those who tried to help me and I wanted to give others what I could not accept for what ever reason. It was my idea and was difficult to pull off BECAUSE I was a felon.

Maybe you should consider not always looking for the worst first and just listen to what you're being told.

Your second points are worth a debate for sure but I have no idea where we begin.

actually, putting him back in is relatively easy.

1) Have strict background checks, like Germany has.
2) Have the ATF be proactive about getting guns away from the bad actors.
3) Give police a lot more authority to take guns from people they get warned about.

Yes, "surrender" is the correct word. You are surrendering to the idea that you are just not smart enough to think of something better than a 100% ban. Surrender for yourself.

Speeders don't obey speed limits, either - but they help.

I'm not crying about it. I am noting how freely and easily you excuse yourself from anything resembling brain strain and surrender on the spot.

And yes, I have "a solution": change our gun culture. Now, this will involve about a hundred different ideas. All will be cost/benefit analyzed, of course. But you are not eligible for that debate, sorry. You assert not only can these events not be eliminated , but that they cannot even be REDUCED one iota by anything but a complete ban and confiscation. In saying this, you have said from the start that there can be no benefit of any other idea, therefore a cost/benefit analysis of any idea is moot. So, take a hike. You are not eligible or fit for an honest discussion of this.

Found an update on the shooting some might be interested in:

Among the dead is the 14-year-old daughter of the church's pastor, Frank Pomeroy, according to his wife, Sherri Pomeroy, the girl's mother. The couple were traveling out of state when the shooting occurred.

The shooter has been described as a young white male who was dressed in all-black "tactical-type gear" and wearing a ballistic vest, Martin told reporters.

As the suspected shooter left the First Baptist Church, a local resident used a rifle to engage him, Martin said. The shooter then fled the church.

After a brief chase, law enforcement later found the suspect dead of a gunshot wound inside his vehicle. Authorities said they don't know if the wound was self-inflicted or the result of the resident who fired on the suspect, Martin said.

Usually, right wingers say: It's awful to bring up gun control when people are grieving.

It's how they get out of talking about gun control. How they twist things.
