JIm Crow laws existed in many states as they began before the turn of the century. It didn't matter who was in power. Yes other states had some but for example Ohio had for laws whereas Tennessee has 20 up until 1954. Texas has 29 etc

Jim Crow laws existed mainly in the South from the beginning of this nation. It was not until the supreme court in 1954 and those that followed struck down school segregation. That change actually happen.

Civil rights act of 1964 gave rights to all races in labor and civil rights.

• Passed the House on February 10, 1964[1] (290–130)
• Passed the Senate on June 19, 1964[2] (73–27) with amendment

The next election all those southern democrats became republicans. Why because they were against the civil rights act. and they jumped ship. I know someone will mention Texas. Civil rights united most of the country except for the southern states who rebelled. well they stay true to there nature.

Now they are the bedrock for the republican party. Just because they were miffed at the civil rights act that dared to give everyone rights to not be discriminated against because of race and sex.
