If you want to talk about a dead end bureaucracy with no purpose, it's Selective Service.

They spend 33 million a year compiling a list that will never be used.

Also, no men are being sent to prison for not registering with Selective Service.

I agree this is outdated and unfair to BOTH sexes (to each in a different way). The idea that a govt may lay claim to the lives of it's citizens and enslave them to the ambitions of the Military/Industrial complex should ALSO be regarded as outdated. No country lacks volunteers when actually attacked.

That's not really true, either.

During WWII, a lot of people signed up after Pearl Harbor, but after the war dragged on for a year or two, people were looking for ways to avoid the draft.

Same thing during the War on Terror. Bunch of people signed up after 9/11, but by 2008, they were signing up rejects like Bradley Manning and Bowe Bergdahl who had no business being in a uniform.

No thanks. If you want to claim something is happening, it's your job to prove it. Not my job to disprove it.

Either way, this is not a new subject and it's silly to act as if it is. Opinions seem to range far and wide. Some people believe the draft should be eliminated because the professional regulars, reservists, and militias seems to be working quite well.

Personally, I think women should be included. I also think that the draft should include an expanded application, akin how some European countries have civil service folded into their compulsory military service requirements.

If a war affects things economically for any reason and not in a good way, we will go primal after the old ways of protection for women in the beginning and many people die for it. Women will be used as shields as barter and as indentured slaves because men may also. Any type of verbal and physical actions will be met with extreme beatdowns. To expect civility in an era where Progressive agendas have removed civility from their own voters is a death sentence. Civility is a thin veneer. Primal is the worst we see of humanity.
