Okay, a bunch of problems with that.

First, if you make everyone serve two years, how are you going to pay them? if you have 5 million 18 year olds every year, to be paid an E-1 salary - 24000 a year. That would be 120 BILLION a year. And that's not counting the costs of housing, feeding, equipping and training them.

Second- Who is going to train them, exactly? You would need a lot of drill instructors, more than we have even if we activate all the reserves.

Third, what are you going to have them all do, exactly? Sure, you could fill out all the active and reserve component units with draftees, but what would you do with the excess people.

Fourth, what do you do about the people who are physically or mentally unfit for service?

I would add the fifth: How would military benefits be handled after the mandatory two years of service? The additional demand and cost with the Veterans Administration, the GI Bill for college education and all the other benefits veterans receive?

Point is, we haven't had a draft since 1973, and no one has been charged with failing to register since 1986.

If you guys really wanted women to be drafted, you should have supported the Equal Rights Amendment. But your side fought tooth and nail against it because it would put women in combat and men would use the lady's room.

They spend 33 million a year compiling a list that will never be used.

Also, no men are being sent to prison for not registering with Selective Service.

You cannot get a job with the Federal government or USPS without registering. In many states, you can't get student loans, college grants, or any financial aid. And note: it IS technically still a felony to not register. ($250K fine, 5 years in prison.)
