High-mileage electric car usage is working out almost twice as expensive as petrol
Perhaps autumn half-term week was not the best time for driving long distances in an EV on largely unplanned routes, but then family life is like that, full of the unexpected, joyful and sometimes sad.
The first thing I learnt during 11,000 miles in the Mach-E was that it isn’t a “proper” Mustang. Secondly, if you regularly cover high mileage in an EV, you need to travel when everyone else isn’t to avoid queuing at chargers.
Imagine that, you get into your electric vehicle, all smug and such, that you are going to go on a trip into the country like North Dakota or Montana, and see how great the country is. Then you realize that you need to plan ahead because every 250 miles or less, you have to stop for 2 to 8 hours and recharge, hoping that the place you stay at, allows you to loiter around during charging. And if you arent lucky enough then you have to park at some expensive hotel and hope they have charging stations. If not, then a tow truck has to bring you into the shop and for a fee, charge up your car again, while the ICE cars, just go into the gas station, pump for about 2 to 5 minutes and are back on the road again. If you only like driving from your house to the grocery store, then that $60,000 golf cart is right for you and your smugness. I just bought a $16,000 golf cart EV, just for that purpose. Much cheaper to operate and a lot more fun.

Long trips do take some planning ahead but smart cars will navigate you to the closest charging station.
The good side is you can commute 80 miles back and forth to work, throw the car on the charger overnight and start over with a full charge every day. Never have to visit a gas station

It is a change in mindset

You act like people don't understand this. I have two friends, both retired engineer's. They enjoy sitting down planning their trips.

They've went on and documented many long trips.

Spot on ... EVs can* replace pod cars for the daily commute ... use the Lincoln Continental for long trips ... or the F-350 to pull the fifth wheel ...

Would we use a White Freightliner on a golf course? ...

* = ETA: where economical ...

Even if the electricity is coal generated, EVs still result in less emission.

It's the damage at the mine ... then fly ash ... and I believe gasoline is far more purified than power station coal, but I could be wrong ...

The BIG advantage of EVs is less maintenance ... an electric motor only has a handful of moving parts ... and no used oil that gets dumped into the rivers ... and EVs run great where electricity comes from sources other than coal ... like cheapest-in-the-nation hydro ...

... just need better batteries is all ... and until then treat EVs as glorified golf carts ... and nobody gets hurt ...

EVs are a fool's errand for anyone drives any distance at all.

Hybrids are the way to go.
You understand that not all people drive long distances on a regular basis, don't you? Before retirement, 200 to 250 miles per day wasn't unusual. Now I doubt I average 35 to 50 miles a day.

The Co2 FRAUD needs to go.

It has gone on too long and is costing too much. It is the enemy. Feeding it $$$ is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. It is sucking our auto manufacturing over to China. IT is a complete disaster.

Co2 FRAUD is a consequence of having a horseshit left wing homo indoctrination disguised as public education and the result of that is that America is a nation of absolute science invalid MORONS. Vouchers are needed now in every blue area of the country.

Nothing says "chestnuts roasting on an open fire" like a 1000-lb lithium battery burning a city block to the ground.

I don't trust the "scientific expertise" of something with a degree in "17th Century Cocksucking" and an ankle monitor that goes off when it's within a 500' radius of an elementary school.

America agrees with me, 312-226.

There's no way to sugarcoat it.... I don't give a **** what this drooling retard has to say.
