Imagine that, you get into your electric vehicle, all smug and such, that you are going to go on a trip into the country like North Dakota or Montana, and see how great the country is. Then you realize that you need to plan ahead because every 250 miles or less, you have to stop for 2 to 8 hours and recharge, hoping that the place you stay at, allows you to loiter around during charging. And if you arent lucky enough then you have to park at some expensive hotel and hope they have charging stations. If not, then a tow truck has to bring you into the shop and for a fee, charge up your car again, while the ICE cars, just go into the gas station, pump for about 2 to 5 minutes and are back on the road again. If you only like driving from your house to the grocery store, then that $60,000 golf cart is right for you and your smugness. I just bought a $16,000 golf cart EV, just for that purpose. Much cheaper to operate and a lot more fun.High-mileage electric car usage is working out almost twice as expensive as petrol
Perhaps autumn half-term week was not the best time for driving long distances in an EV on largely unplanned routes, but then family life is like that, full of the unexpected, joyful and sometimes sad.
The first thing I learnt during 11,000 miles in the Mach-E was that it isn’t a “proper” Mustang. Secondly, if you regularly cover high mileage in an EV, you need to travel when everyone else isn’t to avoid queuing at chargers.
