Daily Telegraph Sydney today [pay wall]
Article by Samuel Clench;
In deeply unwelcome news for Australia, Donald Trump has announced that heāll impose 25 per cent tariffs on all of the United Statesā steel and aluminium imports.
Australia exports hundreds of millions of dollars worth of each metal to the US every year. During Mr Trumpās first stint as president, we were among several trade partners he exempted from comparable tariffs (the one on aluminium was only set at 10 per cent back then).
Speaking about these new tariffs during a gaggle with reporters on Air Force One, en route to the Super Bowl, Mr Trump indicated there would be no exemptions this time.

Charming!
Thanks for nothing, Mr President.
This 25% tariff is very disappointing.
What happened to the, para; "Australia is a great ally. We can't do this [secure America and the Western world] alone, etc"...as the AUKUS deal was sealed in Washington and Australia handed over yesterday its first payment of $500m...plus a gift of $3billion to basically improve US manufacturing capability so as to build the nuke subs.
There's much outrage downunder today.
Trump's shining star suddenly got a lot dimmer in the eyes of many in Australia.
US already has a $28 billion trade surplus with Australia.
How much more does Mr President want?
Anything Australia imports from America it can get elsewhere...from China for example...Europe/Britain, Japan, Korea/Asia.
Cars, trucks, farm machinery, fruit ...there's a very long list.
There are many in Australia who'd be only too happy to embrace China, Australia's largest trading partner, further.
