Huge new Trump tariffs to slam Australia

Australia doesn't import beef from anywhere, ..to protect its cattle from mad cow disease.
Sure. Like it treats imported apples. Isn't it fireblight or something in that case?

But sure.

Also, Australian cattle are grass fed and the meat is leaner than that of grain fed cattle.
Being awash in hormones should make it more familiar to the US market.

Be glad it was not worse .
Ozzers have lived on Free Lunches for too long .

Scrounging is baked into their national character .

Just saw Trump on my tv saying that he's sending out letters to countries soon advising them of the tariff they'll be paying to Washington.
His trade wars are about to heat up.
So far America's farmers have lost billions of income due to cancelled orders.
Reportedly, the beef he wants to export to Australia is imported into the US from Mexico and Canada.

As well, drought in the US has caused a shortage of beef, reportedly.
Donald Trump doesn't seem to understand.
Mad Cow disease is very rare. Flimsy excuse for limiting imports if you ask me. Grass fed cattle meat is less desirable to most consumers who like the taste of grain fed beef and fat marbling. I live in the U.S. and where I am there is no shortage of beef. DJT understands much more than your country tells you about him.

He has a $28 billion trade surplus with Australia, but is still not happy.
US buying beef from Australia is optional.
Canada is moving closer to Europe and Asia after his tariffs and insults ... the US dollar being bypassed in favour of the Euro and Yen.
I think he's been poorly advised.
He needs to look at what's happening in America already as a result of his words/policies.
Particularly in states bordering Canada...and farmers.

I'll be liberated if there's a tariff on beef exports from Australia to the US ...liberated from being able to afford any when the price of beef soars at home.
That should make it cheaper as the supply in Oz will be increased due to less demand in the US.

He was not a drunk at all. He did use chemicals against the wuzzies.
Dude. Have you read no period history at all?

Churchill's unquenchable thirst for alcohol wasn't exactly a secret. White House staffers in Franklin Roosevelt's administration had a special term when Churchill came for a visit: "Winston Hours." Basically, during this time the president and prime minister would get three sheets to the wind.

Can't remember the last time I could afford to buy a quality rump steak or T bone steak, cook it at home.

Saving the world was very stressful. Almost unbearable responsibility.
One would almost need to be in a numbed state much of the time to be able to cope.

The cattle, not the beef.

Australia could bargain over partial US beef ban in Trump tariff talks

A blanket ban on US beef imports to Australia was lifted in 2019, but restrictions remain on Canadian and Mexican cattle slaughtered in America.

Australia has been undertaking a review of those biosecurity rules, after the Trump administration requested they be lifted.
A government source familiar with the negotiations told ABC News that pork remained off-limits due to high biosecurity risks.

The source said beef was being positioned as a bargaining chip to help reset trade ties after the US imposed harsh tariffs on Aussie exports — including 50 per cent on steel and aluminium — and 10 per cent on all products.

Officials believe limited regulatory changes could be made without compromising Australia's food safety — although they acknowledge the risk of backlash from local farming groups.

Chris Parker, the head of peak body Cattle Australia, acknowledged beef had become a "watershed issue" for the Trump administration but that the industry would need to be assured the US was able to "trace" Canadian and Mexican cattle to mitigate risk.

From my Daily Telegraph newspaper today:

The Albanese government is “urgently seeking” details on Donald Trump’s threat to slap tariffs of 200 per cent on pharmaceuticals and 50 per cent on copper, Jim Chalmers says.
Australia is among the world’s top copper producers, but the bulk of exports go to southeast Asia.

Last year copper exports to the US totalled just $55m.

Pharmaceuticals is another matter, with Australia’s exports to the US north of $2bn in 2024.

"America first/America only"...President Trump is doing what he believes is best for the US.
Doesn't mean trading partners/Allies have to like it.

The Treasurer said on Wednesday that Washington’s latest announcement was “very concerning”.

“Our pharmaceuticals industry is much more exposed to the US market, and that’s why we’re seeking - urgently seeking - some more detail on what’s been announced.

And now, an impending 100% tariff on Australia's film studios, reportedly.
Gee, what's he trying to do, destroy
Australia's film industry?
What film industry, it's hardly turning out a blockbuster every week, or year.
Does he hate Australia or something?
