"Saving the family farm" was a common phrase I heard from politicians as I was growing up ages ago. I don't hear it these days and can only guess that's not because I left the Midwest. Haven't been back in awhile, and get impression that small farm communities have mostly died.

For those back there how are things down on the farm? I grew up in the suburbs but enjoyed the trips out to the country and stopping at roadside stands and going to the county fairs and seeing the farm equipment and animals, plus the 4H kids with their projects. If I recall correctly in a week or two strawberry season in northern Ohio will be at hand. To me that kicked off summer as much as Memorial Day.

Been here in the desert so long that getting stuck on the road behind a manure spreader almost seems nostalgic.
