Houston Chronicle removes paywall for Bombshell Story on 400-page report finding Southern Baptist leaders routinely silenced sexual abuse survivors

Methodism originated as a revival movement within the 18th-century Church of England and became a separate denomination after Wesley's death. The movement spread throughout the British Empire, the United States, and beyond because of vigorous missionary work, today claiming approximately 80 million adherents worldwide. Protestantism began in Germany in 1517, when Martin Luther published his Ninety-five Theses as a reaction against abuses in the sale of indulgences by the Catholic Church, which purported to offer the remission of the temporal punishment of sins to their purchasers. Just sharing here the difference in the history of Baptist, Methodist, and Protestant churches.

An explosive 400page investigation finds Southern Baptist leaders silenced/disparaged abuse survivors, ignored calls for policies & dismissed reforms that might cost the SBC money in lawsuits

enjoy...i'll post excerpts tomorrow

Why should we “enjoy?”

What part of this story do you consider enjoyable?

The SBC report reveals that all the while, these arbiters of virtue and self-proclaimed guardians of “family values” were spectacularly failing to protect the families under their care. It paints a portrait of leaders ignoring predatory behavior, the better to denounce the immorality of their neighbors. They bear the very shame they’ve attempted to dole out on others.......................

........................Russell Moore, former head of the SBC’s political arm who left the convention last year, wrote on Sunday, “Who cannot now see the rot in a culture that mobilizes to exile churches that call a woman on staff a ‘pastor’ or that invite a woman to speak from the pulpit on Mother’s Day, but dismisses rape and molestation as ‘distractions’ and efforts to address them as violations of cherished church autonomy? In sectors of today’s SBC, women wearing leggings is a social media crisis; dealing with rape in the church is a distraction.”

Southern Baptists' abuse report is no call for reform. It’s a repudiation of the past 40 years.

Basque isn’t left …

No make me defend Basque because then he will think I am lusting for him…

As for the story the fact is it is news for the moment until Biden farts…
Basque is two people. He's admitted it. That's why he "swings both ways, politically. A shared account

During the tenure of a high-profile Southern Baptist leader, administrators at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas admitted a registered sex offender who had self-disclosed his status to the institution.

Paige Patterson, one of the most influential Southern Baptists and Southwestern's president at the time, praised the student, saying "God's hand is really on you and that you have a brilliant future for the Kingdom," according to an email he sent to the student and obtained by The Tennessean from a former seminary employee.

The article refers to the SBC as protestant, they are not, to be protestant they had to be at one time affiliated with the Catholic Church. The SBC is the largest baptist denomination but there are a lot of others. And those names mentioned are not leaders as the article states they were elected to do a job. Baptists are congregational like the Quakers and Mennonites.

This correct, and in fact they are more like 'anti-Protestant' Protestants, since they were also opposed to the Anglicans and other Catholic off shoots and state religions in general. The Establishment clause in our Constitution comes directly from the Baptists' three main platforms. See Thomas Helwys for the origin of that premise.

The organization split in the 1980's over right wing political support for Republican candidates. Don't know what the split off organization became.

So where is any actual data published? I keep following links to links and more links and no actual numbers, just vague 'allegations'. IF the investigation started in 2019 there ought to be some 'There' there by now.

Some info here:

Got as as one appendix where a Ms Brown says she was molested by a church staff member named Gilmore, but haven't finished that one or seen any others. Jack Graham seems to be only well known name involved as a witness, and he has pledged total access to all emails and other documents at his disposal, while almost all the rest refused due to old age and other reasons.

List here, but not all are SBC, and many of the accused have already been covered years ago and sent to prison.

Not really 'a long list', but a long secret list. No breakdowns yet on how many were faggots yet either.
