I'm going out on a limb here but I bet most of the children and adults doing this are autistic in some form. Maybe not super easy to spot but like Bill Gates and others, somewhat autistic. These poor people including children get hooked on something and have a huge problem not letting it go. They get easily fixated and off comes the body parts.
