‘If faculty want to preach that Marxism is a triumph of human thought, so be it. If other faculty want to argue that actually it was a disaster, and a crime against humanity, this view should no longer be fanatically censored’

A longtime economics professor at Wright State University who has repeatedly requested permission to teach a class critical of Marxism has been rebuffed by his bosses and peers who appear unwilling to allow the topic to be taught to the general student population.

Meanwhile, the university frequently offers courses that praise Marxism, economics Professor Evan Osborne told The College Fix.

Osborne said the “short version” of his predicament “is that we have an angry, radical-left cohort in the department, they praise Marxism in the classroom, they will not let me teach critically about it, and numerous people in the university have refused to do anything about it.”

While Osborne has recently been given permission to teach the class this fall to honors students, he is not allowed to open the class to the entire student body, he said. Only honors students may enroll in honors courses.

Osborne has been able to teach his class once before, as an honors course in fall 2014. Again, only honors students were permitted to enroll.

Osborne told The College Fix via email. “And I do not want to change how economics is taught at WSU, broadly speaking. I just want my academic freedom to offer a different view to also be respected.”

The great Universities of Europe were started by the Church, and for several centuries they adhered to the Faith while gaining knowledge and teaching that to generations of students. Then they started drifting away, and eventually, they dismissed the Faith. Today we are at the point where universities in the West are stinking holes of the father of lies through Marxism.

Far more people were killed by Protestants than any Inquisition, far more.

But not so with the Spanish Inquisition. In its 350-year lifespan only about 4,000 people were put to the stake. Compare that with the witch-hunts that raged across the rest of Catholic and Protestant Europe, in which 60,000 people, mostly women, were roasted. Spain was spared this hysteria precisely because the Spanish Inquisition stopped it at the border. When the first accusations of witchcraft surfaced in northern Spain, the Inquisition sent its people to investigate. These trained legal scholars found no believable evidence for witches' Sabbaths, black magic, or baby roasting. It was also noted that those confessing to witchcraft had a curious inability to fly through keyholes. While Europeans were throwing women onto bonfires with abandon, the Spanish Inquisition slammed the door shut on this insanity. (For the record, the Roman Inquisition also kept the witch craze from infecting Italy.)

My post was in reference to the OP and the present day situation of how unwanted thoughts are suppressed by the holy powers of the universities today.

If my referencing the inquisitions as a comparison to the suppression of debate and freedom to express other opinions upsets you then you are no better than them.

How did Kepler and Galileo fair during the Inquisition?

If you want to talk about dead bodies how many people have died in the name of Social Justice and "Progressive Peaceful Protests" by the hands of those supporting those causes since all the rioting has started this year?

Galileo was offered a very good deal and decided to not accept.

I don't think that anything happened to Kepler viz. the Inquisition. Perhaps you meant someone else.

That program requires calculus ... interesting ... 2 years foreign language ...

Somehow, I don't think it's stupid people who are taking these classes ... children will pay to hear childish stories, that's what children do ... but I can guaranty you that Economic Majors are in it for the money ... taking your money out of your pocket and putting into theirs ... trained experts ...

Sheep-skin in hand ... all is forgotten ...

Electric power for this post has been brought to you by SOCIALISM ...

Communist have murdered millions of people. Anyone not realizing that fact is mad. The civil war started years ago, lets finish it while we have the means.

Communism has killed over a hundred million people.

You know, the ideology it's frowned upon to criticize.

In what way was it a good deal to Galileo? That he shut up and be put under house arrest? Wow!!! What was his other choices? To be burnt at the stake or thrown into the deepest dungeon and forgot about. What a deal!

If you don't know Kepler's story obviously you don't know the inquisition as well as you think.

Sounds almost like the progressive plan for thoughts that don't coincide with their agenda

Wright state needs to stop being a leech off of Capitalist taxpayer dollars.

Maybe then, they can enjoy some of that great socialist economy, just like Venezuela has.

That is how leftists operate. Students are forced to be indoctrinated in the Marxist criticisms of capitalism ad nauseum, yet the second a professor criticizes Marxism, their message is immediately disrupted and they are ostracized. Only their side can get their message out there.
