Vladmir Putin is telling his military commanders Russia need to deploy five million troops in order to triumph in Ukraine. A document doing the rounds in military and political circles in Moscow entitled "Conclusions of the war with NATO in Ukraine" has highlighted the vast challenges now facing Russia.

Oleksii Hromov, the deputy head of the Main Operative Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, explained: "A part of this 'masterpiece' among other things focuses of the main problems of the Russian occupying forces such as the commanders' inability to command troops, low level of discipline and military training, obsolescence of armament and military equipment, commanders' inability to make decisions without obligatorily coordinating them with higher command etc.

"It is also stated in the document that there has not been such a war in the previous 80 years, and Russia needs its army to consist of nearly five million troops in order to win."

IIs Putin really this crazy?

A strong offensive by NATO supplied Ukrainian military forces could possibly KO Russia, but the length of time for Ukrainian military forces to reach Moscow could exhaust their supplies. I mean it would take @ least three days for Ukraine ground forces to reach the outskirts of Moscow & another good 15 minutes to reach & occupy the kremlin!!!

IIs Putin really this crazy? no he is BLUFFING, they can BRING IN less than 80 000 mobilized every 2-3 months. they have no ammunition, no winter kits , no logistic for 5 000 000 . Lukasenka said Moscow can mobilize 25 000 000 , which is a bluff as well.

This whole "war" goes against everything we thought we knew about the russian military.
Apparently it sucks when we've always been told they are a formidable enemy.

He had better be glad he really isn't at war with NATO. His Keystone Kops Army wouldn't last a weekend.

hmmmm.....I wouldn't bet on that.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I hope the world doesn't come to that though! Nobody wants WW3.

I'd rather he was crazy in THIS way than crazy enough to use a nuke...
Russia's defeat is inevitable and dropping a single, or even a few nukes, in Ukraine would not change that; even Putin understands that. From the start, the Russian military effort depended on shock and awe to bring about a victory, and once it became clear that would no longer work, Russia was reduced to making threats about using nukes.

Viewing Russia's efforts to cause huge numbers of Ukrainian civilians to freeze to death this winter, and considering that Russia has shown no remorse for the Holodomor, the Russian genocide against Ukrainians in the early 1930's, and considering the paroxysms of rage and hate expressed by the Russian leadership, it is not impossible to think Russia might drop a nuke on Ukraine despite the fact it knows it won't change the course of the war.

Of course nobody wants WW3.

I was just commenting on the poor showing of Russia's conventional forces.

The Ukrainian military was weak compared any NATO country and they have been able to stop the invasion and inflict tremendous losses. Any NATO country would have performed much better than the Ukrainians.

Can you imagine what any NATO country would have done to that 40 mile military convoy that we saw a few months ago? Almost any country would have established air superiority in a short time.

The Soviet Union's military was a mighty force but this Russian conventional force is a joke for a military that suppose to be #2 in the wold. Plagued by corruption, poor logistics and weak leadership.

WTF does listen more us mean?
I dont give a fuck about russia's past history.
England used to rule the seas, thats no longer the case.
If russia cant beat the Ukraine their military sucks.
If they went to war with the US it'd be over real fast.

I disagree. A lot of NATO countries would have fared much worse, if they had to face Russia alone. Not to mention less enthusiasm.

I don't think the Russian army is that terribly bad. They have lots of problems, but if they were that much incapable, Ukraine would long have retaken all the land.

They could have taken one of the smaller NATO countries if other countries would not help.

However, the Russian army would not be able to resist attacks on multiple fronts, for example Kalinigrad, St. Petersburg. Karelia, Black Sea coast and Far East.

They seem to really suck at long term planning.

Actually, Litwin is making an interesting point: why did we think Russia's military was so much better than it really is? When the invasion began, Biden offered Zelensky safe passage to the US, meaning the US believed Russia would quickly be successful despite the fact that the US had been training the Ukrainian military since 2014.

The Ukrainian military in 2014 would not have resisted that well.
