There are public servants, and there are those that merely pose as public servants.....~S~

So if a cop witnesses another cop breaking the law or trampling on a citizens rights like they do every day, and they won't do anything or arrest them, they are bad cops too.
Isn't that what officer Serpico did, and it got his life ruined?

You know what I never hear about? Cops arresting other cops breaking the law in the line of duty. Or even trying to stop them.
See above.

So, how many good cops are out there?
Being in police is tough business. There is a strong inducement to stick together and watch other's backs.
I'd guess that at least 60%-80% are what I would call "good cops." Maybe higher, maybe lower.
It only takes a few bad ones, and it depends where you are. NYC gets a
bad rap but I've even seen good cops there.

I personally haven't had much contact with law enforcement for decades.
Although I had plenty when I was young, drunk and stupid.

Live in a rural area that's only covered by the county Sheriff's office, and a 911 would probably take twenty minutes for a response. I never get pulled over, because I don't drive like an idiot, and my registration is always current.

Even with my years of puffing weed, I have never been busted with it because again, I keep a low profile since many folks are judgemental nanny statists.

Yeah, there are bad cops, but there is an even higher number of extraordinarily stupid selfish people without common sense or a complete lack of respect of others.

I have known lots of good cops.

These are the ones who do their jobs despite the risks, despite odious skell violent criminals, despite heavily orchestrated hatred directed at them and despite stupid rules and regulations — and they try their damndest to keep the good people in our city safe and secure. Plus, when called upon to testify in court, they do so honestly. And that last one is crucial. An otherwise good cop who lies about the facts of his or her investigation undermines the justice system.

Are there more bad cops than good cops?

I don’t know.
All cops are bad. There may be a tiny handful of "good" cops, but they turn bad or leave law enforcement quickly.

Probably 98% of them. We ask these folks to do a job we wouldn’t ever consider doing, while underpaying them, not supporting them, and running their every decision under a microscope. Were lucky thst ANYONE takes the job under these conditions.
And yet, many still covered for the one that raped my wife. ALL OF THOSE ARE BAD COPS.

A very Un-thought out mindless spew.

Oh wait. It’s jarlaxis. No surprise.

You would cheer the Gestapo herding Jews into boxcars. You would excuse the cop that raped my wife. You think what happened to Donna Jane Watts and Joe Crystal is fine.

You are a copsucker. You will excuse ANY action by a cop, because he is an Authority Figure. You'd be the first to run to a phone and report your neighbor to the Thought Police.

Years ago, I was friends with a guy who used to be a cop. But he had to quit. Ostensibly, he quit because of a traumatic incident where he shot and killed a guy. It was a clean interaction - he did the right thing, possibly saved lives. But he told me that that was mostly an excuse. He said that was really getting under his skin was that he realized he got off on it. Not shooting the guy - that truly was traumatic - but the daily interactions with people in the course of doing his job. He admitted that enjoyed putting "assholes in their place".

That was a surprising revelation, and surprisingly self-aware of him. I suspect most cops who feel that way wouldn't admit it, even to themselves. But it left me wondering how many other cops are just bullies in uniforms. People who get off on lording it over others. I hope it's not that many. :(

Nah. I’m not a Democrap.

False. I excuse no rapists. Again, I’m not a Democrap.

I don’t even know their names. So how would I deem whatever happened to them to be fine.

You are a fact free scumbag.
Stop lying, at least to yourself. You will excuse ANY ACTION by a cop.

You remain the liar.

You don’t know me yet you pretend to know how I think and what I do or don’t believe.

You also (obviously) remain an asshole.
