Canada apporves new oil pipeline

so the First Nations are paid hush money BUT once the aquifer is contaminated, NO AMOUNT of $$$ can clean it then their traditional way of living in harmony w/ nature is destroyed  .

oil is 100% natural and biodegradable. It is decayed organic matter.
It has been around for a million years and the planet is still thriving.

The Challenge

The B.C. governmentÂ’s five conditions for pipeline approval call for a world-class marine spill prevention, response and recovery system.

Our Solution

After thousands of hours of research, planning and testing, we have the most comprehensive set of marine safeguards ever established in B.C.

Our Solution

After thousands of hours of research, planning and testing, we have the most comprehensive set of marine safeguards ever established in B.C.

New radar and navigation aids make it safer for all vessels

Northern Gateway will add land-based radar to the North Coast for the first time, and install new lights, beacons and buoys throughout the Douglas Channel and approach channels.

Master mariners will guide tankers in and out of port

Only licensed, local B.C. Coast Pilots will guide our tankers. Loaded tankers will be escorted by two tugs — one of them tethered at all times. As an added precaution, tugs will carry spill response and firefighting equipment.

Advanced simulation backs our navigation plan

We tested our tanker operations at a state-of-the-art marine simulator in Denmark. The result was an endorsement of the shipping route from government departments and the British Columbia Coast Pilots.

Care taken during land to marine transfer

The Kitimat Marine Terminal will include two ship berths and 19 tanks for oil and condensate. While docked at the Terminal, tankers loading export oil will be surrounded by a containment boom.

An action plan for a swift and decisive spill response

Our goal is zero spills, but should there ever be one, our action plan mandates a swift and decisive spill response. In such an event, manpower and equipment will be deployed promptly to respond to any spill on water.

Only certified tankers will berth at our terminal

Tankers must be double-hulled, under 20 years old and meticulously certified. Crews must be certified by the International Maritime Organization, and officers must be English speaking.

A spill response capacity 3x better than required

Our spill response capacity will be more than 3x the current Canadian regulation. In addition, tanker escort tugs will carry emergency response and firefighting equipment to be able to respond immediately.

Trained emergency responders in place

Our staff, contractors, and partners will be in place to maintain an enhanced state of readiness. Regular real-time first response drills will be held and reviewed, with continuous plan improvements being made.

An oil company has a "solution" just like BP and Halleburton had with the blowout preventer with the Deepwater horizon. Oh that's right, they didn't.

If you believe oil companies have a true solution for WHEN something goes wrong to protect the environment, then I have oceanfront property in Iowa to sell you.

Did you not see the economic benefits and partnership benefits page I put up? It's not hush money.

The Yinka Dene alliance is 5,000 strong in opposition to the pipeline. A pipeline that will bring in untold billions in revenue to Canada as a whole.

First Nations benefit from taxes paid by corporations like Enbridge and from little old tax payers like me.

Now if they stop the pipeline and want to live strictly off the land and not on my tax dollar and every other Canadian's tax dollar I will have no issue with it.

And I'm not alone in my feelings on this.

Oh piss off. You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Pipeline spills are very rare.

By the way I'm a mega conservationist and have been for decades. Not an enviro whacko. Pipelines are extraordinarily safe compared to shipping by rail or shipping by truck.

Now take a look at pipelines across America. Very safe and very well maintained with rare exceptions.

what is wrong with Congress in that they can't just override Obama and do what would be good for America? The crying bleeding heart liberals said the same about the Alaskan pipeline and the only problem we have had is when a bleeding heart liberal shot a hole in the pipeline. More jobs and opportunity lost because of Obama. Thanks.

Canada OKs oil pipeline to the Pacific Coast

He was "profoundly disappointed" that U.S. President Barack Obama has delayed a decision on the Texas Keystone XL option, and spoke of the need to diversify Canada's oil industry. Ninety-seven percent of Canadian oil exports now go to the U.S.

Meanwhile, China's growing economy is hungry for Canadian oil. Chinese state-owned companies have invested more than $40 billion in Canadian energy in the past few years.

This is way overblown as a serious issue. First, oil is a commodity, that Canadian oil goes to China only affects shipping costs. If Canada produces more, that helps hold down oil prices. Second, with the fracking boom in the US, regardless of the pipeline, the US is headed to energy independence. If we're importing less and they are exporting only to us, that's a risk to them anyway.

Don't get me wrong, the arrogant dictator in the White House should not be making decrees he has no legitimate authority over, however, I suspect the Canadians wanted to go to the west coast anyway because of the fracking boom. Otherwise, they could just wait two more years and with Obama fatigue there's a great chance the deal would be approved, and these are decades decisions, two years is nothing.

Not permanently. Oil is 100% naturally occurring substance and is biodegradable. Oil is lighter than water.

The point is to not contaminate aquifers...That can be accomplished.

Pesticides, heavy metals and other chemical runoff is more of a problem than oil.

First Nations Tribal Elders are going to regret this if they willingly signed-off on this powder keg of an environmental disaster waiting to happen.

Pipelines already run across Native lands. They drill oil on Native lands.

The Natives play you environmentalists for suckers. They evoked all these emotional triggers for political leverage then cut the best deal possible.

The deep-rooted opposition isn't from the Natives. It's from the environmentalists. Native communities are generally poor. They don't live off the land like their ancestors did. They're not out hunting for deer for their livelihood. They go to the store to buy their meat just like everyone else. They want cash.

Liberal scum don't understand Canada is another country, not just a second Vermont. Canada makes their own choices for their own good.

Selling their oil to our enemy and shipping it further than to the US is the only option when liberal scum block them here.

So much for "saving the planet" bullshit from liberals when they help ship oil over the Pacific Ocean to the largest polluter on the planet.

Yes, you realize of course the logic that sending oil on little boats on the big ocean is risk free, it's not risky like sending it across land and we need to do that more...

Asswipe.....tell us how scum like you have "saved the planet" by forcing Canada to send their oil over a different pipeline and then onto ships. :cuckoo:

Oh....your intentions of saving the planet are good, it's not the results that matter.

yeah, there's a shortage of pipelines in this country... one or two more is bound to make a big difference in global prices

Also, shipping that oil through the US via "trains" is also sooooooooo safe the eco-friendly according to liberal scum based on their utopian beliefs.
