Calling all boomers

In reality, our only real interest was in supporting our ally South Vietnam, in accordance with the Geneva Accords of 1954. The same way the Moscow Conference of 1945 split Korea, and assigned the Soviets to advise and assist North Korea, and the US to assist and advise South Korea.

Funny, how so many in here absolutely refuse to ever actually state an actual treaty or agreement in support of their positions. Oh, wait. They have none. All they have is their faulty propaganda that does not rely on pesky things like "facts" or "agreements".
They also forget that the UN approved the War into North Korea.

Something that would never happen in Ukraine, Vietnam, or Taiwan. As Russia learned their lesson to not allow such measures to come to a vote in the UN.

I honestly believe that some changes in that organization need to be made. Such as, an aggressor nation can not exercise their veto when a vote is called to intervene in said war. And repeat cases of one nation invading and annexing the territory of another should result in the stripping of said veto powers.

UN is a joke now. Bosnia proved it.

Until we finally went in the Serbs laughed at UN forces. Not so much when U.S. forces showed up.

Led to another showdown with us and Russia as they sent troops.

Still the same now except the USSR fell. Good Ridance.

UN is a joke now.

The UN at one time was a really good organization. But as the decades passed, it became more and more of a joke. And now, it is not even a good joke.

The sad thing is, I used to really support them at one time. But as the decades passed, I have seen that the organization has become impotent and corrupt.

Case in point, the UN Mission in Lebanon. Approved back in 1978, and that nation is as screwed up and torn apart by sectarian violence as it was 46 years ago when it started. Former Yugoslavia, Somalia, the list of failures just goes on and on.

Case in point, the mission in Syria ended way back in 2012. The UN admitted it was doing nothing there, violence was not decreasing, so they simply ended the mission.

Of course, if it was up to me we would see somebody like Christopher Smith placed in charge of such a mission.

UN completes investigation on UNRWA staff

With respect to the remaining nine cases, the evidence obtained by OIOS indicated that the UNRWA staff members may have been involved in the 7 October attacks.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini issued a statement acknowledging the completion of the probe.
“I have decided that in the case of these remaining nine staff members, they cannot work for UNRWA. All contracts of these staff members will be terminated in the interest of the Agency,” he said.

My response. Not the article.
UN workers were Hamas and some took part in the atracks on Israel.

I have no doubt that most of the North Vietnamese and Vietcong saw themselves as Patriots and nationalists but so did the South Vietnamese, but it's bull to say that the US was imperialist in Vietnam. We had nothing territorially to gain there our only interest was in stopping communism. However, many on the left favored Communism even for the United States but wouldn't say so in public; and I suspect many of them still do. That's the reason that so many of them hated Ronald Reagan, because of his resistance to communism. Ronald Reagan destroyed the Soviet Union and saved the world from communist slavery, and the left hates him for it.
If it was about Communism what did it have to do with you 12 thousand miles away? saved the World from Communist slavery :abgg2q.jpg: we saw that excuse when the US was supporting South and Central American Fascist death squads and Pinochet overthrowing Democracy in Chile even when American citizens were the victims, Reagan was another senile idiot and second rate actor.

/——/ It was LBJs and Robert McNamara’s war so LBJ could claim a victory for his administration.
I don’t think LBJ really cared about Vietnam

He just didn’t want it to turn communist on his watch
Any politician of either party would have done the same

Protesters Were Snobs, Not Anti-War

You mean like the WWII bomber pilots who killed German and Japanese old men, women, and children? Ethically selective about a war your spoiled-brat Vassar Viper's boyfriends weaseled out of fighting.
She sure traumatized the guy who wrote the OP

That war. like all wars, damaged our national psyche and created scars that still haunt us. To those too young to remember or didn't serve then it was less than 20 years after WW2, and there were still a lot of WW2 vets in and out of service and in your neighborhood. It was still uncouth to even question the military and even more we still believed the media. It was a bad war for all the wrong reasons, and people began to realize it. To rationalize killing people you first demonize and trivialize them, and that's what we did to the Vietnamese. We turned into the monsters that we claimed to be fighting, and once it started we were led by people that were incapable of telling the truth much less admit they were wrong. LBJ ended up a psychotic mess on his ranch because of all the evil he had done in his life, and Robert McMamara regretted his part, among with Kissinger, who continued chasing his own demons. I am not sure that this failure will not be repeated. How Robert McNamara Came to Regret the War He Escalated.
Nation-Building Loses Wars

LBJ was a Liberal race-traitor. He cared too much about winning the hearts and minds of the South Vietnamese. Instead of moving forward toward the enemy and invading North Vietnam, our troops wandered around protecting worthless villagers.

Same misplaced multicultie policy in Afghanistan and Iraq, so the Republicans, too, think of GIs as social-justice warriors.

Fact. That pretty much ended the VC as a force in the South.
Tunnel Vision

Before Tet, the American people had continually been told that the Communists were exhausted and about to quit. Victory was "at the end of the tunnel."

All of sudden, the North Vietnamese Army appeared in full force and vigor. It wasn't like the Nazis' last-ditch Battle of the Bulge. They had plenty of young men to replace all those killed on Tet.

Your GOPer nannies who gave you the talking point that the Democrats quit when victory was a hand have, as usual, given you a hand job. Let them jerk off emoting in the shadows after you sheep develop independent minds and quit listening to the media's hired gurus.

I was born in 63. But there was still talk about Fonda all the way into the 70s that I can recall, once I started paying attention to the TV and adults talking.

I remember seeing Fonda standing on something, surrounded by Vietnamese soldiers, giving a speech. But thats about all I remember.

Since Fonda is a die hard liberal, her old speech should be on Youtube.
She exposed the reality of the mass bombing of civilians in Hanoi the US don't like their war crimes brought into the light, not that it would have bothered many Americans at the time they were totally brainwashed, just like the horrors in Abu Ghraib didn't bother them.

Rubbish. It brought the vermin to the peace talks. Sucks for you to be so full of shit.

And i'll continue to laugh at your commie ass.

Rouge killed 2 million. Communist supported by China.
You don't know your own history and are too stupid and lazy to find out.

You and me both, at one time I thought the UN was a great idea. I was a supporter but as the years past it became more and more of a joke so now it's totally worthless. The place is filled with corrupt liars and now all it's really good for is to provide jobs for the worthless offspring of 3rd world dictators. I say keep the thing as a meeting place for world leaders to debate international topics but take all real power away from it and reduce contributions accordingly. The charitable functions should be taken over by a separate organization of Democratic donor nation; it probably would be a lot more effective with less corruption.
