"In 100 years we have gone from teaching Latin and Greek in high school to teaching Remedial English in college." — Joseph Sobran

Indeed, and it has gotten worse since the late Joe Sobran said this.

Plenty of money for schooling, failing schools awash in money.

My oldest daughter had taken her SAT. She was not happy with the verbal score. She asked for help. I walked into my library, dug out an old copy, Webster/Haynes debates from 1830. I told her, read it, find a word you don't know, look it up, bring it to me. Her score increased dramatically. But here is the thing, at the turn of the 20th century no one could get past the eighth grade if they didn't know that debate, inside and out. Now, a high school graduate probably doesn't now who Haynes, or even Webster, was.

My old girlfriend graduated from a major university on the dean’s list. The only math class she took in 4 years of college was math 110; an overview of jr high school math.
That was 45 years ago.

Examples are words like GAY
Gay when I grew up meant happy.
Liberal when I grew up meant generous, accommodating.
Democrat meant recovering from their prejudiced habit of treating blacks as subhumans. They still have not recovered.

Democrat does not mean what it meant when FDR was president. FDR was a racist and it then was fine with democrats. Today however, they still are racists. Against whites this time.

Awash in vile dem grift is more like it.

So it is first day of class at the University of North Carolina, Chapel HIll. Yes, go Heels. I won't lie, I was like a fish out of water. No friends there with me, I was alone. I am coming from Calc 2, searching for my Poli Sci class, in the damn Science building. No doubt, I am lost, but I wonder into this big classroom, the biggest in the building, I figure this was it.

Well first thing I notice, the damn class is almost all minorities. No problem, I heard the blacks like Poli Sci. But then the professor walks in, welcome to Math R. Math R, for remedial, WTF? The professor says, we are going to start with fractions. Oh hell no, I start gathering my stuff to walk out and a girl beside me goes, "I knew you didn't belong here".

Math damn R? Fractions? Believe me, I start rethinking the whole college thing right away.

In a really short period of time in the 90’s we went from business type attire in school to pajamas and slippers and flip flops. School stopped being about the business of education and became a catering service to make sure no ones feelings got ruffled

Well, Liberal hasn't changed much, they're just generous and accommodating with our money.

Critical thinking skills and math -- also in the toilet. Just look at your posts and here...

I bet you compare monies spent by decade

Just imagine all those who never went to that college. We call them Democrats.

Oh take that shit to the damn house. I don't give a damn about FDR. I don't give a damn about Democrats ******* 150 years ago. I live in today.

Look, I am white. About as white as it gets as my son says after doing all that DNA thing. 85% British, 14% Scottish, 1%, some damn mystery. Call it the margin of error. And I understand, it is all paternal DNA.

But the racist jerks in power now are the Republicans. I mean I will give you a very simple example. Hegseth has said that all soldiers should be clean shaven. Sure, I can understand the whole appearance standard. And from my own professional experience nothing creates more animosity from employees than screwing with the grooming standards.

Look, first reaction is that Hegseth is just a total dumbass, and hell, that is the best case scenario. Pseudofolliculitis barbae, you know what that is? Look it up. Condition that primarily affects black people, caused by, wait for it, SHAVING. So, is Hegseth a total dumbass, or is this a targeted attempt at eliminating minorities from the military? From the recent firings of senior officers that were a minority, it starting to feel like the former.

I remember seeing an 8th grade graduation test from circa 1920 many years ago and realizing that the knowledge they were requiring of those 8th graders was far more demanding than anything I saw in my 12 years of public school and it has gotten noticeably worse since my graduation.
