Automatic Balls and Strikes ABS system in the minor leagues now.

It can't happen soon enough in the majors. I'm thinking they'll roll it out in Spring training at least next year. There is still an umpire behind the plate but he calls what the system tells him through his earbuds. He still makes all the other home plate calls.

They had a similar but not identical system last year.

The Rangers almost lost a game the other day on a (fairly obvious) foul tip that went to the backstop. The ump completely vapor-locked on it. The Cubs were circling the bases while the catcher was screaming at blue for being such a fuckup.... which is exactly what they're supposed to do. Non-reviewable of course. I'd love to see some better technology behind the plate.
