Depends on the car, both on the price of the part and the amount of labor it takes to remove. I think I remember it was a pretty expensive part in my old Cadillac in the early 2000's. But the point's the same, some parts are more expensive than others and even an expensive part isn't that much compared to a car payment.

/——/ If you know your stuff, you can swap out parts from a sister car. Maybe the Caddy water pump is the same for Oldsmobile or Buick and half the price.
