We had a family friend who was born in Lithuania before WWII. His father was a policeman. When the Soviets invaded they sent the father to a Siberian gulag, for being a policeman. They sent his two sons and wife to a camp on the Black Sea. Some years later they returned the father to the family. He was nothing but a skeleton and died a few days later.

What a horror show Stalin’s Russia was.
