American education falls to below average globally

.

Yeah, but at least our kids have REALLY HIGH SELF ESTEEM! And we're REALLY CAREFUL not to HURT THEIR FEELINGS! That's what matters!

Confident Idiots: American Students Growing More Confident, Less Capable

.

My kids went to a primary school that emphsized self confidence. They are much more confident than many of their peers, and they do very well in academics because of their confidence. Their confidence really helps them to improve in the subjects that they are weaker in. I have taught primary school, secondary school and have lectured on the university level, and I can tell you that self confidence is very important in education.

That's all well & good but it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this thread.

This thread is about the liberal policy of passing students who are FAILING academically so as to not hurt them emotionally.

You morons bitch about education needing more money yet you INTENTIONALLY pass failing students.

I was replying to something that was posted about liberal approach to education. Climb out of the bottle and wake up.

The answer to this is for the US to emulate what the countries with the best education systems are doing.

Many Americans, especially those on the right, do not want to hear what is going on in other countries.

You can't have first world scores like Europe and East Asia when you have a third world population on average, not realistic. Spending more money won't change that.

This is not about spending more money, it is about what is done with the money.

This board is loaded with people who are PROUD of their ignorance, so lets not pretend that their blatant celebration of stupidity has anything to do with their education, shall we?

Education and politics. What political group is pushing for the exclusion of science based biology texts, and which is pushing for religious based biology texts? Which political group denies AGW in the face of a strong scientific consensus on that subject? Which political group consistantly attacks the idea of spending money on R and D in this nation?

Time to get the government out of the business of schools and privatize everything having to do with education.

Now why do you think we abandoned that system in this nation? You don't suppose it had something to do with the fact that it didn't work? How many of the nations that exceed us in these test scores have a totally private education system? How many have a 50-50 education system? How many even have an education system that is 10% private? Now why do you think that answers to those questions are what they are?

How many of those countries are named The United States of America?

Thank you Unions and lefties. Nothing better than socially promoting stupid kids for social reasons! They may be dumb as shit when they graduate but at least they'll feel good.

Well, you may have a point, but until those other nations test ALL students that come in the door, instead of tracking the lower ones into vocational programs that aren't tested, those academic comparisons aren't valid.

Do you realize that because of Federal requirements, schools are forced to give state developed tests to students who are what used to be termed "mentally retarded"? Their results are counted just like the smartest students' test are counted. Other nations don't do that, so their results seem better.

You might want to look into what's really happening before commenting.

If we do that, we'll give 'em a test in the 7th grade and those that don't pass don't go to school, but instead learn a trade.
