American education falls to below average globally

Yeah, but at least our kids have REALLY HIGH SELF ESTEEM! And we're REALLY CAREFUL not to HURT THEIR FEELINGS! That's what matters!

Confident Idiots: American Students Growing More Confident, Less Capable

.

This generation was raised to value self-esteem above discipline and achievement. Consequently, students are feeling better than ever about themselves while performing worse. We have become a nation of narcissists.

No wonder these students find school a place to cut loose a little, drink, use drugs and turn the school into a free brothel. They are gifted and already know everything.

Yep.

And worse, they'll enter the real world expecting awards just for showing up, rewards for doing nothing, respect without earning it. I feel bad for them, they're in for a rude awakening when they leave school. Many of them are experiencing it now.

Hate to see it.

My youngest daughter is currently in the middle of that reality check

It all comes down to our ass backwards funding and control of our educational system

Those countries that do better than us all have national control over the educational system. Only the US puts the power with the local school board....with widely varying results

Have you seen the tests that were given to students in those one-room school houses from the 20's through the 50's? Students could read, they could write (you could even read their writing) and they knew their geography and what little science that was available to them. Those that were taught in those 'locally' controlled school houses were people like Thomas Edison and others who powered the industrial and scientific revolutions in this nation. It is the main reason why the United States grew from a backward frontier nation to the one that lead the way in science and technology.

Right now if you want your children to get a good education you seek out private schools, probably some type of Christian private school (Catholic schools are very good) and you send them there. There is absolutely NO WAY that I would send my children to a public school now.

We have seen conclusively that you don't "teach" kids by trying to make them conform to some national standards that makes them all achieve to the lowest common denominator. We also know that the answer is NOT throwing money at the problem.
Did you know that most Americans got by with no more than an 8th grade education back then?
Nothing like wanting to go back to being ignorant....sheesh!

Yeah, a couple of people I hired tried to pull that crap on me, they soon found out what it is like to be unemployed by me.

A person who actually knows how to run a business would far more likely tell that person that they have to earn rewards, which may be traumatic to the employee given our educational system, but I have faith in the individual that they would somehow get over it.

Or maybe we should have the government step in to make them "feel" better, huh? Perhaps we should have an agency to handle that.

.

The answer to this is for the US to emulate what the countries with the best education systems are doing.

That involves longer days, longer weeks, longer years, tracking at an early age, smaller group expected to go to college, decent vocational ed.....and more respect for the teaching profession.

Think we are willing to go there?

Oh, and corporal punishment.....in Japan, it's the kids who clean the school.

The biggest problem with our educational system?

Parents

They demand too little from their children and their schools. School is a babysitter while both parents work. They accept mediocrity in their children as long as it doesn't impact their free time

If the manufacturing jobs were out there like they were back then, we wouldn't even be hearing about this....because there would be a viable niche for those who cannot handle a college prep track. But nowadays, in America, EVERYONE is expected to be college bound. It's totally unrealistic. The countries we compete against know that.

Don't feel bad for people that don't exist. Reality is much different than the strange that you imagine. "Expecting awards for just showing up?" Really? I never met anyone like that. Must be a conservative thing.

You've obviously never heard of participation ribbons.

You've obviously not dealt with many employees.

My goodness, how comfy your little partisan cocoon must be.

It all comes down to our ass backwards funding and control of our educational system

Another lying post from the pathologically lying scum-sucking slimewad calling itself rw.

What a piece of shit you truly are.

I checked the first Country I thought of -- Germany, and lookee what I found

Education in Germany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A few organizational central points are listed below. It should however be noted that due to the decentralized nature of the education system there are many more additional differences across the 16 states of Germany.

Every state has its own school system.

So when a gullible dipshit regurgitates some shit about Obama watching the battle of Benghazi from a drone, or that Obama was the one who increased regulations tenfold for a lead smelter plant in 2008, or that 80 million people are going to have their employer sponsored health insurance cancelled, I can blame the left wing for that incredible credulousness, too?

Awesome!

What the fuck does that have to do with our sabotaged Education system?

People are now so stupid and lacking in critical thinking skills, they believe really dumb stuff like those things. Not only that, they parrot them without thinking. That's what!

And Socialist Germany actually has jobs across the educational spectrum.

Germany is hardly socialist.

Portugal, Greece, Spain, Greece and Italy are. France currently has a socialist president (who won't last long) but is not really a socialist country.

But Germany? Socialist? :lmao:

You're a trip :lmao:
