I wouldn’t know. Nobody like that came. As far as I know there were no counter-protesters, and no MAGA hat wearers chanting “Black Lives Matter!” Cops stayed away, but were watching. This was a pretty spontaneous, or at least quickly organized protest, so there were not many “marshalls” providing security. We have seen spontaneous security measures taken in daytime rallies, like the demonstrators who tackled that idiot tearing up the pavement for rocks. They took him and handed him over to the cops, I think in D.C.My question was not rhetorical. Would it be safe for a guy wearing a MAGA hat to show up there?MAGA hats? Nope. Not one.
Check it out. It’s on CNN now. Cars are honking in support.
When I was young I sometimes served as security at anti-war rallies, and once at a big demonstration against the Klan in D.C. There were often provocateurs we had to deal with, or just undisciplined troublemakers. Cowards would throw rocks from behind peaceful crowds. Sometimes we were attacked by pro-war elements, even tough construction workers — whom I would have preferred to see fighting on our side.
