We have all heard the inflaming rhetoric of our President, seen the incessant media coverage of real looting and violence. Nobody knows for how long curfews and military/police/civilian conflicts will persist. Nobody should want this, just as nobody should support ongoing police murder and persecution of innocent citizens. But most of the country is absolutely calm. Unlike in the 1960s, today there are fortunately many more African-American local leaders, mayors, cops and even police chiefs.

There is too much unreported news of peaceful protests, and black white unity. In this thread I invite everybody to post the often under-reported stories that stand against racism and “looting and shooting” and “military suppression.” Reports of fake news, reports countering conspiracies aimed at inflaming racism, exposing provocateurs — all these are welcome here.

I start off with a few modest examples.

I suppose these strategically placed pallets of bricks just happened to drop out of the sky when

This is likely the infrastructure ready to spring up when Bernie Sanders was supposed to lead their vanguard
and set up re-education camps that has used this murder of Floyd as a starting gun for their revolution.

What we need are peaceful protesting of our government’s failure to address the systemic problems of police brutality. The continued coverup of brutal actions by cops nationwide and the refusal of police chiefs, prosecutors, and politicians to weed out bad cops.

We need a better system to monitor cops who are brutal, who lie, and who plant evidence. We need to stop letting fired officers go to another town and join the police force there.

BUT we also need ladies and gentlemen to behave properly. To be less defiant and confrontational.

It is a two-way street. Cops need to be monitored. But it is absurd to paint as sweet little innocent angels some of the VERY bad people they have to deal with.

I just watched a report about a Dallas police chief praying with protesters he was about to arrest for “violating a curfew” just a few moments before. Very moving. No arrests were made. No looting, no shooting. Just the power of prayer and human solidarity.
