A tariff mess solution...is it this simple?

Oh, there's a connection. We import more than anyone. Which means every other countries gdp depends on wether, or not they play ball, and play it our way.
We're about 10% exposed to you. We have trading arrangements with 100 nations. We'll reassign that 10% if necessary and go around or ignore the US.

Maybe China will take that extra 10% straight away, it has to replace its imports from the US. Beef may be the first expanded market as China takes no US beef. And we have a FTA with China.

Good luck.

While doing my bike exercise machine routine this afternoon, I was reading the news on my phone, and in a Politico article on Trump, and tariffs 10 hours ago was this brief mention of a solution to the whole tariff mess, imho.

"In a post on Truth Social Friday morning, Trump announced that he had just spoken with Vietnam’s leader To Lam about the country’s offer to eliminate all tariffs as part of an agreement with the U.S., adding that he looks “forward to a meeting in the near future.”"

Somebody tell what is wrong with two countries doing away with all tariffs put on each other.
What is wrong with that is that most countries (certainly Vietnam) cannot compete with the U.S., and as such, we will be taking advantage of them.

This has been the reason why many countries have raised tariffs on us in the past. It is not because they want to take advantage of us, but because they have to prevent their own industries from collapsing (which would not only hurt them but hurt us as well). The only countries where we should actually have tariffs on are those that specifically compete with us.

Trump wants that production here. He can’t remove the tariff.
Everyone except you wants more production in the US

I dont expect a return to the 1950’s

But we can make far more stuff here and import far less from china and India

That can be done

And why not?

Crazy greenies are running around freaking out over global warming while importing all your freaking low-price crap from the worst polluting producers on the planet

Does it bring jobs back to the U.S.? NO

That can be done? Sure if you find people here willing to work for $2/ hour

Without tariffs they (US workers) would have to accept a pittance in wages

Along with repealing all the workplace protection and environmental regulations

No wonder you want china to be the slave drivers and do your polluting for you

Hmm....Lam started the ball rolling. Just on News-Nation...about 10 countries have come forward asking for zero tariffs between them, and us.
Did you know that 99% of our exports to Israel are tariff free?

Also of note… our total trade number between us and them is only 34 billion.

That’s both ways

Unnecessary to produce our own pharmaceuticals here instead of depending on enemies like china?
Pharmaceuticals come from all over the world, including being made domestically.

Maybe it wouldn’t be such a problem if you guys would stop trying to turn everyone into an enemy.

From that admission then you are stating that we are living far above our means. You do understand that. i mean a rich luxurious nation like ours does need the people of a foreign nation to be our slaves. For years I have made comments on this with no answers or comments from Progs. Now you do because of tariffs. When we controlled ourselves, we lived well. However, we didn't live like we were all top shelf royalty with the serfs at varying levels providing their work to give us our Caligula like living. And this includes the Perma ghettos with all of the crimes and despair of some of the of residents living in them.

China has the bulk of production for the basic ingredients and that has to stop

Goal seems like a long way off. Sounds like all Trump has to do is agree with Lam's suggestion, now.
Yeah, now you're beginning to sound like one of those idiot libs.

Somebody tell me what is wrong with entering in to negotiations before creating a global calamity.
