A tariff mess solution...is it this simple?

For poorer countries, you take away all tariffs and it might destroy some of their key industries.

The problem here is that Trump doesn't care if a country is poor or not, he wants to screw it over no matter what. He wants to "win", even if the winning causes more problems than it solves.

Literally the US is benefiting from poorer people making goods at a low cost and then shipping them to the US where they're bought by Americans for a low price. The US puts tariffs on such things, it's going to cause Americans problems.

It has a trade surplus because things are so cheap. Then Trump sees this as a problem. Why is buying cheap things from people bad for the US? It makes no sense.
I think this will end up with countries lowering their tariffs on us, but not an explosion of new manufacturing here. I heard Trump use the word "trillions" to describe the manufacturing that's coming, and that's fantasy. Plus it takes years to build one (1) plant.

Then he'll call it the greatest win ever. All of this fucking noise and carnage for agreements that could have been made peacefully and intelligently behind closed doors. But Trump doesn't know "peacefully" or "intelligently".

My criticism of the trump tariffs is that he should have concentrated on china only and not imposed tariffs on US allies

If we can handicap or hopefully cripple china’s economy and move production to countries friendlier to the US thats a win for America

All these countries are going to fold. They need us to buy their stuff more than we need theirs.
So this is NOT about bringing the manufacturing back to America? Not about good jobs being brought back?

So....me and my future livelihood, and my retirement was just used, abused, and put in peril by Trump, so he could get some deal with a tiny little Vietnam, and not to Make America Great Again with good jobs etc?

There's no way to know if Trump and Lutnick really think this is going to turn America back into a manufacturing leader. It can't be done, outside of completely isolating us from the rest of the world economy, and that would lead to inflation we've never seen.

Improving the tariff situation is a good idea, but it will be complicated, and it certainly didn't have to be done this way. Not even close. Everything has to be ham-handed, spectacular drama for this unwell individual.

no tariffs would be great until you have a country that can make a product cheaper and inferior and people will buy that product regardless but it hurts your own product which is better but costs more.

likely the reason we don't see 5K chinese cars here........it would dent US and japanese companies

those in big cities would pay 5K for some tin box that gets 60mpg with a 1L 3 cylinder motor that weights the same as a harley

Vietnam is poised the be the next asian economic tiger and can take a lot of exports to America away from china
they have been for awhile now, china got so big and rich thanks to us their wages have gone up to where now intel chips are made in Vietnam, shoes and cloths too and likely more in the future.
they must have a large port, not nearly the population of china but likely enough people for now

Yeah, he's a guy who likes to show everyone who's boss and then walks around like an arrogant F*ck because he did by being the biggest dick in the room.

Yes, he could have done this much more quietly, but that's not who Trump is. He has to be the dick.

Fact. They will bend the knee. The time of pretending we are equal partners is over.

So... It's probably going to work. But you don't like the way he's doing it because it hurts your feelings... Christ...

you say dick, he says confidence and yes he will swing a bigger dick than other countries and they will get in line, we have the best products and the best free economy, want a slice.......play ball our way

It removes production from china and hurts the CCP

vietnam is communist but more of a hybrid now, they have brought in many western ideas for future growth

they and china are likely still true buddies, not sure we should be fooled who is loyal to who

And my guess is Trump will agree. But Vietnam, so far, is the only one.
I wager he won't. Tariffs are not really the point.

Having personal power is Chump's point, he won't give that away by settling trade disputes he's provoked.

Trump wants that production here. He can’t remove the tariff.
Chump wants the US to take over Vietnam's garment trade.

US sweatshops are easily as sweaty and inexpensive as Vietnamese sweatshops, right?

If Chump can't personally impose tariffs, Chump can't sell American importers exemptions from them.

Do MAGAts not understand how grifters and mafiosa work?
