Trump Is Considering a Push to Extend Obamacare Subsidies

President Trump, who has repeatedly denounced the Affordable Care Act as a “disaster,” is considering backing an extension of insurance subsidies tied to the health law that are set to expire at the end of the year, according to a senior White House official.

Mr. Trump has not made a final decision, the official said. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss continuing deliberations.

“Until President Trump makes an announcement himself, any reporting about the administration’s health care positions is mere speculation,” said Kush Desai, a White House spokesman.

Should this reporting (by multiple news outlets) prove to be true, that trump essentially waited until after the shutdown was over before acquiescing to D's demands on subsidy extensions, my question is.............tell me again, which party was responsible for the government being shut down for so long?

I will oppoes any of Trump's efforts to extend a subsidy for an enttity that is called, "The Affordable Care Act". If its affordable, then move on to something else.

If it is not affordable, scrap the whole thing.

Government need not be involved in sending trillions of taxpayer dollars to insurance companies.

What President Trump realizes is that ObamaCare is a disaster. Americans are about to get bills in the mail that almost double their premiums. He's well aware that most Americans can't afford those premiums. So he's probably going to have extend the subsidies while we try to figure out how to fix the mess that you on the left have created!

I am amazed at how clueless you are, and how you really just ignore reality. Trump repeatedly told Dems he would sit down and discuss this with them before and during their shutdown. They shut the govt down for no reason other then to cause harm to the American people

Evidently he had to TACO again when GQP congresspeople called him raising holy hell.

It's a little stunning that they would just pull the carpet out from under millions of Americans like this, leaving them nowhere to go, with essentially no notice or options. POOF. Gone. Too bad.

But that's just standard Trumpian chaos. I'm sure all those red state Medicaid recipients won't mind, because their sacrifice is making America great again.

Any chance of getting you to comment on the question I asked? If trump ultimately caves on ACA tax credit extensions, what was the point of keeping the government shut down?

The democrat party, of course. Have you so soon forgotten that it was Schumer who kicked the whole thing off by trying to undo the election results? He could have at any time opened it back up again.

Too funny.

Why are you not asking the Democrats that?

I guess you don't understand civics at all. The ONLY way Trump caves is if he signs a bill that authorizes more bailouts of the failed ACA.

Your question is without merit and nothing but an attempt at partisan 'gotcha'.

Like Obama said, its extortion. Now it can be talked about.

When folks like us spoke of the chaos of trump 1.0 they seemed to not know what the heck we were talking about. Admittedly, it was tame compared to 2.0 but it it was a constant presence.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Maybe that's the way their lives are too. Or they're just so far down the rabbit hole they can't tell. Hard to say.

But when they try to deflect to ANYTHING or ANYONE else, you know they're lying. NO ONE is like this. And certainly no President has been like this.

Trump's proposal to reduce the cost of health Care involves the creation of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), which would be financed by the Government, enabling individuals who cannot afford insurance premiums to purchase coverage independently.

In conclusion, Trump aims to create the perception that he is the benefactor providing you with funds, thereby fostering the illusion that the Government is not the source of this financial support.

This is not a viable plan whatsoever. In fact, approximately 9 or 10 years ago, Trump claimed to have a strategy for reducing costs. However, neither Trump nor the Republicans possess a concrete plan.

Those who continue to support this will eventually realize the consequences or may even face dire health issues due to inadequate medical care.

Do you think the concern expressed by congressional R's over their chances of re-election due to trump's stonewalling of the D's request for ACA extension negotiations played a role in the flip flop? If he had agreed to what he appears to be on the cusp of doing in the first place there would have been no shutdown.

Liar. You said last question in OP.

Are you really this clueless? The GOP offered a clean bill to fund the government. Nothing more...nothing less. The Democrats demanded 1.3 Trillion dollars in additional spending or they would shut down the government. The GOP is telling the Democrats that they will not keep pouring trillions of dollars into the ACA as it is now constituted. They've always told you that how Barry sold it to the country was a lie. That it wouldn't lower costs. Now that's been shown to be the case. Obamacare doesn't lower healthcare costs...it increases them. So is the left ready to come up with a healthcare plan that actually is feasible...or are you going to continue to play the blame game?

This isn't something that caught Democrats by surprise. It's been obvious for years now that the ACA was going to be wildly expensive. That Obama was lying when he said it would "bend the cost curve"! So waiting until the last minute and then trying to extort the money to keep the program solvent is on Democrats...not Republicans! You guys saddled us with the ACA...that was a straight party line vote. You came up with it. You lied about what it would do and what it would cost. So why don't YOU fix it?

trump refused to negotiate on an issue he appears to be flip flopping on. If he had initially acquiesced to D's request rather than waiting there would not have been a shutdown. Got it?

hahaha rewriting history? Trump never said he wouldn't discuss the subs, he in fact repeatedly said he would....but the Dems continued their shut down, for some odd reason

In your simple mind, what is causing health insurance premiums to rise across the board?

That Obama was lying when he said it would "bend the cost curve"!
You understand the ACA is not currently as it was enacted because of constant R sabotage, right?
