Schumer Shutdown Question

While most Americans, correctly, already blame Republicans for the government shutdown, Trump reminded everyone that it has, in fact, always been in their power to pass his bill and cause millions of Americans to see their healthcare costs soar, The blowhard told them on Thursday that Republicans can play their ‘TRUMP CARD,’ and go for what is called the 'Nuclear Option' — Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW!”

Republicans could have ended the shutdown at any time.

There are no DOGE savings. What bank account is this money deposited in? I think we should have a robust debate on that $235B subsidy AFTER the DEMs shit and get off the pot for their opposition to the CR and drop their claims they want $1,5 trillion in additional spending.
Trump can't undo what congress setup by law. One example is the federal workers' retirement paperwork still being kept in a PA mine instead of on computers.
So why haven't you figured out the plan that will have bipartisan support, or will the DEMS oppose anything because Trump is still in office?
As for fixing SS & Medicare, we don't know if democrats support the fixes because none were ever proposed, so it looks like retirees will be fucked-over and only get 77% of promised benefits after 2033.

8 more years. Trump can fix that after he is a real lame duck.

Mike Johnson was asked why any sort of compromise with Democrats is out of the question when millions of Americans are about to lose their federal food benefits?

The shutdown began after Republicans voted down a Democratic spending bill on Oct. 1 that would extend subsidies for people who get health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

Trump’s administration has found a way to cover military pay amid the shutdown, and asked Johnson why he’s “drawing the line” at hungry Americans.

The MAGA Republican argued that contingency funds for food benefits can’t be used because Congress didn’t authorize this ahead of the shutdown.

Democrats say that “that’s not what the law shows” — which Johnson simply replied “that's ridiculous.”

It may be ridiculous but it's true.
Your link says the dems in the senate voted down a spending bill

So why did you lie?

The blowhard has made multiple messes. His scheme to deprive millions of Americans of healthcare coverage shuts down government, and he has placed the blame on Republicans by telling them it has always been in their power to enact his "big, beautiful bill" without any bipartisan support.

Trump’s demand that Republican senators bypass Democrats to reopen the federal government risked upsetting delicate negotiations on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers were finally making progress toward a deal to end the monthlong impasse.

Trump’s new demand in a social-media message to eliminate the Senate filibuster rule could complicate the path forward. Meanwhile, food aid is at risk of lapsing for millions of people, the nation’s airports are increasingly snarled, and Affordable Care Act health-plan enrollees are confronted with sharply higher premiums.

Trump reminding Congressional Republicans that it has always been within their power to end the shutdown just when they have failed to blame Democrats is a hoot!

And they will still be held responsible for the imminent surge in premiums that will cause millions to lose their healthcare coverage.

USA TODAY reported that a main sticking point in the 2025 shutdown negotiations revolves around Medicaid funding, as many Democrats have pushed to reverse recent cuts to the program enacted as part of Trump's major tax and spending law.
Obamacare subsidies set to expire at the end of the year are also a main talking point. If Congress doesn't intervene, millions could see their health care premiums rise.

Republican finger-pointing is futile. Their irresponsible neglect and sabotaging the ACA for years has achieved the present crisis.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is casting much of the blame for rising health premiums on her own party, arguing Republicans should have reformed the Affordable Care Act, and its expiring tax credits, sooner...
Greene doubled down on her criticism of the GOP caucus and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for failing to give details on an alleged plan to reform the ACA.
“The Democrats passed Obamacare, but yet the Republicans have never done anything to correct the problems that exist with it”...
“However, it’s something that we should have a plan for, and Mike Johnson, for a month now, cannot give me a single policy idea,” she added. “And I’m angry about that.”...
“I believe that Congress should be solving a lot of these problems,” Greene said.
“However, Congress is not solving these problems, and I have Republican leadership.”

The A.H. is losing it. With most Americans blaming Trump and his toadies, the blowhard is raving inanely:

“INITIATE THE NUCLEAR OPTION”...
The Democrats just don’t know what they’re doing...
They’ve become crazed lunatics...

It’s their fault!...

Everything is their fault!"
A federal judge on Friday directed the Trump administration to use emergency money to fund the November food aid benefits for millions of Americans. Trump has not yet indicated whether it will appeal the ruling, and the White House deferred to the Office of Management and Budget on its plan. OMB did not respond to a request for comment.
“Good. Trump’s decision to cut off SNAP was vindictive and heartless,” Schumer said. “He was trying to manufacture a hunger crisis so he wouldn’t have to fix healthcare.”

The government shutdown remains at a standstill, with the issue at the center being that Democrats demand that Republicans pass extensions for subsidies of the Affordable Care Act.

It makes no sense, I thought it was called the AFFORDABLE Care Act. If it is so affordable, why are subsidies needed? :dunno:

The dems have some explainin' to do.
/----/ Upchuck Schumer just voted NO for the 14th time.

Before Trump became president he said the president will get the blame for a shutdown. You know everything he said. A good leader is supposed to get everyone in the room and make it happen. BLABLA. So you know calling it the Schumer Shutdown isn't going to change that reality. He was right wasn't he? I thought Trump was right about everything? Isn't that what your hat says?

Then after this ass whoppin you took this week Trump tweeted that Republicans lost because

a. The government shutdown
b. He was not on the ticket

If I were you Republicans, I'd open up the government pronto.

Republicans all vote for the CR, democrats vote against the CR.
So it is officially the Schumer shutdown.

Apparently there are a few Republican chikin-shits who won't vote to change the rules, so this shutdown will last a long time.

Yea but Trump's right. He/You are being blamed for it.

Reminds me of inflation last year. Not Biden's fault but he got the blame. The buck stops...

/----/ Republicans want to reopen, but they need 5 democRAT votes.

Sorry, but you've bent us over for 10 months. Now we have some power and you're going to give us something. That's how this works. You can't be this ignorant?

And I'm sorry but it's your parties job to explain it to me. Not your spin. Mike Johnson just keeps going in front of the camera and lying. Saying he's tired. Tell him to be honest with you so tomorrow maybe you'll be honest with me.

Hey, the President is ultimately going to take the blame. Want to see? Then just keep the government shut down till the midterms next year and see how that works out for you. Or go nuclear. Be my guest. We already know the election is going to be rigged next year.
And there is the prep going on to excuse big losses.
TDS my ass. You guys have TDS. And you think anyone who don't got it, has it. Ain't that a pip?

I just talked to a lady who told me she still stands with Trump. I wonder if she could tell I don't. I tried my best to pretend I agreed with her. But I didn't have time to explain to her what an idiot she is. So I come here. For the record, she owns a maid service. For some reason small business owners are always Republicans.
As well they should be. They have to deal with envious drones who want the perks but not the responsibilities, rapacious government out to squeeze as much from businesses as possible, and recalcitrant employees who would do anything rather than help the business succeed.
They must feel like Republicans care about small business but do they really?
Republicans know government doesn't care about them and don't expect it to. They are Republicans because they are the party more likely to get government out of the way instead of trying to insert itself into every facet of their lives under the auspices of helping.
Not that small. Republican policies **** them too. They just feel like they are above being Democrats.
Mind-readers of the world, unite!
Because they are Business Owners. Shit. They probably make less a year than me.
Maybe. That depends on where in the business cycle her company is. If she's new to it and building from scratch, she's probably paying her employees more than herself. If she has multiple teams out doing the work and she can afford to just manage the whole thing, she's probably doubling or tripling your income and loving every minute of it not having to answer to a boss.
Of course I have a college degree. They clean houses.
Correction, she runs a business, which in most cases means a business degree. That means that she is exposed to the insanity the government spews on business owners and has to deal with all the rules and regulations liberal government loves to impose under the guise of helping. No wonder she's a Republican.

Answer this, how many employees does she have? If she has two or three teams working independently, she's doing pretty good.

Since when do democrats explain anything they do? Plus, never getting one right you would think we would make them explain. To allow Schumer to have that much power the whole nation must be voting for Socialist, Muslims, or pipe dreams.

Republicans won't go nuclear, apparently there are 10-15 dickless shitheads who refuse to end the filibuster, even though they know the democrats will the very first time they can. Insanity.
