No I think if the DEMs could have expanded subsidies and made it o permanent at the time they would have.

The temporary nature was to get it passed at the time. With the plan all along to make them b permanent.

Trumps tax cuts were passed in 2017 and revenues remained fairly flat.

Revenues did increase in 2021 mostly do to the stimulus packages revolving around COVID. (Packages which also increased debt I'll add.)

And everyone is acting like this is free insurance or something, it's money the insured still pays for.

I used the ACA insurance for a time and the government (IRS) takes back the money they "front" you when you file your taxes for the year by breaking it down into monthly payments.

The first year I availed myself of an insurance product from the marketplace, I had an additional $3,000+ liability on my tax return just for my health insurance.

If my monthly premium had suddenly doubled I wouldn't have been able to absorb that, especially if a person is younger and/or healthy and doesn't need to see a doctor very often, an extra $300 a month will force a lot of people to go without insurance.

I don't think they are worth shutting down the government over. The Democrats can vote for a clean CR like they did under Biden 13 times to keep the government running while they and the Republicans hash out those subsidies in the larger overall budget.

Yeah that's one of the major disadvantages of having the country run by billionaires - nothing they do negatively impacts them or theirs. I read Majorie Taylor Green only "understood" the seriousness and implications of the problem when her adult children apparently indicated to her that they would not be able to afford health insurance if the premiums doubled as is being predicted.
