The power in charge is corrupted. Those nations are rich in minerals, with some having oil and have lush regions. The islands have that also. But there is a break in ways of looking at things. This is not easy. But massive corruption by the people on top causes massive pain for the peasants. The peasants may not have the living standards of the American version. But they could live a lot better.
