Workers At Donald Trump's Las Vegas Hotel Vote To Unionize

The decline of unions has lead to the decline of the middle class .

No sir, Big Government is to blame... Don't believe my just think of how much you hate Bush.

How is "big gov" to blame ?

Without unions the workers are powerless vs management .

big government enforces union extortion.

However, wages would be much lower without union bargaining. Still and all, the unions are not the enemy of the companies since they hire the illegals, and knowingly so.

Job security in free enterprise comes from delivering, job security from belonging to a Union comes from, well, belonging to a Union

Don't fully agree.

Unions are an economic entity and should behave as such.

Unionizing to extort more money from Trump is stupid and why Unions are becoming less relevant every day.

A good union will add value to a company.

Can you name one "Good union"

If unions are so bad, why (in an at-will employment, "right to work" state) are 85% of Vegas casino employees organized?

Duh. The same people that own Harry Reid and make him drug mule for them

Not one that I know of today.

However, in early 2003, I was part of a project in a heavily unionized area where a small company utilized the union to supply people to do mechanical work.

The job appeared to be structured such that there was a bonus associated with certain metrics. Everyone who showed up for the job was very qualified and worked very hard. Somehow the company was able to leverage the good parts of what a Union can do with a material motive outside of union control. Not sure how that worked since there are rules against it (I thought).

In any event, the job was smooth, high quality, and very safe.

It seemed to be a win-win.

If I tell you the Teamsters is a good union you will refer to the scandals and corruption which have surrounded it over the years and you will ignore the fact that millions of truckmen are and have been paid living wages ever since this union was formed -- at the expense of much spilled blood and other oppression by corporate goons and shill politicians.

So I'll offer the example of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) as a consistently clean, respectable and very effective union.

Another is the ILGWU, the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, which has been driven into obscurity by political corruption and betrayal in the form of exportation of most garment work to foreign countries. Unfortunately the ILGWU was not strong (big) enough to overcome this practice.

And there are many other good, clean, well-managed unions.

According to the Culinary Union, Trump Hotel employees earn $3.33 less on average than workers who do the same jobs at the Bellagio, Wynn, Caesar’s Palace, the Stratosphere and all of the other 95% of Las Vegas resorts which have organized labor representing hotel staff. In addition to better wages and benefits, organizers are demanding equal treatment and respect, an allusion to the nationalist rhetoric Trump has used throughout his campaign.
Trump Hotel workers use candidate's anti-Latino rhetoric to galvanize union

I agree unions can be a great asset for companies but it looks like Trump had this coming. He was underpaying and you get this.

Wait until they realize that the $3.33 plus a lot more per hour will go to the union..

Amen! Having lived here for 36+ years, I am well aware of the corruption of the Culinary and other unions. The workers will not pay into the union and that money will be used to pay huge salaries to union bigwigs and provide them with some disgustingly posh perks.

When it comes to dealing with management on behalf of the worker - workers get screwed.

Because of the political clout they have gained with the Democrat party and Dingy Harry. You have a lot of workers who speak little English - many undocumented - with no experience with unions. They are pressured by union activists to include threats and intimidation. In the end, they gave - not having the faintest idea what lies in store for them.

Watch what happens when the union agreement comes up for renewal.

Exportation of business is a the result of favorable costs.

If the Union had worked with companies to lower cost structures, jobs would have been saved.

Obviously the unions failed to do so.

What in the world is trump doing? Pay your workers for god's sake. With his money he could afford 3 bucks more an hour. Then his workers might produce more. After all mless pay should garner less production. More money garners more production. What a cheapscape.

I'd let them all go... They can call me names, but they can do it without a job that I gave them.

I'm so happy that Unions are fading away more and more every single year.

Unions are an organization of American workers. Why do you hate American workers? Are you Canadian?

Unions are the most evil corporations there are... They are about making money and literally using employee's as leverage. Do you not understand how unions work or something? Unions fight to make the people that run the Union money, not employee's.

Union pay isn't higher than non-Union?

How is paying a livable wage 'extorting' money?

Your sentence makes no sense.....

If you are asking how asking for a living wage is extorting, that might make more sense.

The whole premise of this is found in the OP. It says nothing about a living wage.

I am always happy to entertain someone's argument over what a living wage is.

Unions might be seen as duped American workers.

Your extrapolation is a logical fallacy.

You must be stupid.
