So you have Fetterman who cannot complete a sentence and went missing from Congress due to health problems, and you have diaper boy who shuffles around the White House who may be able to complete a sentence, but not a coherent thought, but only Feinstein is targeted by democrats to retire due to health problems?

Feinstein’s absence has become a roadblock for President Joe Biden’s agenda due to her seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Without Feinstein, several of Biden’s judicial nominations cannot advance to the Senate floor to be confirmed without Republican support in the committee.

And that's a good enough reason for me.

The warning signs have been there for a while, though. She shouldn't have run for re-election, but nobody had the balls to ask her to retire.

They want a Newsome appointment, not a election because whoever he appoints will have the inside track in a election.

Shifty Schiff plans on running for her seat but I hear that many dems don't want him and would prefer someone else, maybe even Newsome himself to use as a springboard to POTUS in '28 if not sooner.

It's more complicated than pissing off Feinstein; if Newsom appoints a senator, he has to chose among those who are currently campaigning to replace her in 2024. He has his own ambitions and doesn't want to create internal enemies by picking the wrong replacement. He'd rather Feinstein serve out her term because he wants no part of the aftermath.

That makes sense too.

It's hazardous for Newsom to put his thumb on the scales because if he ever decides to run for president, he'll want the backing of Feinstein's camp even if she's no longer above ground by that point. Newsom's also calculating there's a non-zero chance something happens to Biden that either causes him to lose significant support or perhaps some sort of health emergency that forces him to abandon his 2024 campaign. You can see this in his occasional sniping at DeSantis.
