It's unfair to characterize the shooting victim as "autistic" since it sometimes takes years for even professionals to make the diagnosis.....

Six years is adequate. Autism is an affliction that requires a specific number of behavioural points in order to distinguish it from Asperger's ..... but that distinction is well mapped out.
